Fun shooting ammo for the Mosin Nagant!

Has anyone got a case of 'sticky bolt' with the Czech SRTA training ammo? There is a lot less pressure with this load and my M39 sticks hardcore with lacquered case standard ball, but zero stickage with the czech training load, I assumed it had something to do with the reduction of pressure inherent to this load.

Sorry, I disagree. The ammo is causing the sticking cases, not the chamber in any of my rifles. I can shoot Albanian, Russian, Polish, or commercial ammo all day long and they all extract like butter. I shoot the green steel cased stuff and after about 6 rounds, I need a hammer to open the bolt. I have an extensive collection of Mosin Nagants and they all are that way......chris3

You just described the numero uno symptom of sticky bolt syndrome. The hardened cosmo in your chamber will stick to the lacquered steel cases much much better than brass cased stuff.

I have 4 mosins and they all stuck steel cased ammo like nuts too.... Until I chucked a 20 gauge bore brush in a drill and got the hardened cosmo out of the chamber. Now they eat cheap green cased ammo like warm cookies.

last time. the primary rounds used by ex-eastcom countries are the old ak rounds or the updated smaller ones. Not sniper rifles or crewed? machine guns. if you don't want your mosin to lock up clean the chamber and stick to(get it?)copper washed rounds and buy them now 'cause they are going away. out.

I cleaned that rifle for hours, stripped it down to individual parts and soaked them in toluene, scrubbed, buffed, oiled and still, sticky bolt on the 3rd or 4th shot.

Incidentally, I bought my brass ammo at sportsmansguide.com in Winchester brand, good stuff, fairly pricy. I don't pleasure shoot my Mosin very much, so I just stocked up enough brass to use in case I need to for whatever reason.

you gotta ream out the chamber with brushes in drills and steel wool and stuff. or maybe you got sold a crap gun, they do exist, you know.

AIM surplus has brass ammo, but it's not surplus. Privi Partizan. I purchased 200 rounds and I reload for my Mosin. My primary round is taken from some Polish surplus ... I break it down and re-load in brass with 3/4 of the orig powder charge. Makes for a nice target round that won't send me to the orthopedic surgeon at the end of the afternoon.

It also has the advantage of now shooting non-corrosive ammo.

I'm also trying to work up a load to use much lighter bullets, much like the "low recoil" rounds in this thread.

well, judging from most of what you've written, I'm just trying to dumb down to you. Just kidding. Best wishes to you, ammo-master.

There's a lot of surplus brass cased 54R out there. Albanian is probably the easiest to find, but apart from having brass cases it's very filthy stuff and seems to have a lot of ejection problems with some Finns. Copper washed is also an option if your Mosin just doesn't like the green lacquer.

Ted did a very extensive rundown here:

You need to google to see what's up for sale on the primary or secondary markets. GB also has a constant stream of spam cans.

Mosin chambers have a very wide range of specs. So much so that neck-sized brass from one Mosin may not even begin to fit in another Mosin's chamber (learned that the hard way).
