Glock gen 3

I have a Gen2, 22, a Gen 3 19, and a Gen4 20.
I can't say that any of the three have any quality that makes them better than the other.

I do like the replaceable back straps on the Gen 4 though. The small beaver tail strap really works out well for me on the G20.

In the G19 series, my personal preference is the Gen 2, because it didn't have issues with BTF, didn't have finger grooves, and didn't have the "wall" in the trigger stroke before it released the striker.

If I were buying new, I'd take a hard look at the Gen5 G19 as they did away with the finger grooves, cleaned up the trigger stroke, has replaceable backstraps, and has a flared magazine well

When I am firing a Glock, I can't tell what gen it is. I can tell if it has a good trigger and sights, otherwise, no difference to me, unless I want to use a mounted light- in which case, I need a rail.

I have a few Gen 3's and like them. 17, 19, 32 (my first) and 23.
The one 23 did have a rail break during a tac pistol class but it never failed to fire or eject.
I found out a few days later during a post class detail strip.
Glock replaced the frame and Glocktalk had an ongoing thread about S/N's affected.

A lot of people like the gen 2's for the lack of finger grooves but I personally don't see a downside to having them.

I do not own a Gen 2, 4 or 5 so cannot comment on which is the "best".
I changed the connector and put a NY1 trigger in these.
They shoot just fine for me.

I prefer Gen 3. Don’t mind the finger grooves and I used to the trigger. Aftermarket support is better for the Hen 3 than all others combined so if your a tinkerer that’s a plus.

More objectively, I don’t think there is a ton of differences between them and if those differences, “is it enough of a difference to make a didfeeence”. I don’t really think so.

The trend of events made the G3 popular and rightfully so. More particularly the g19 and the g17. The Gen3s came out in the late nineties then the dreadful Sep 11 happened and war came. Though, not a government issue, it is a sidearm weapon of choice for the “privileged” ones. Reliable, durable, light, shootable, low maintenance, cost, etc...The gun proved itself. The rest is just a pedigree.

I kept my g19 gen3.

I was perfectly happy with my Gen 3 G26 and G17.
Then, I couldn't resist a like new Gen 4 G22, courtesy of police surplus, cheap.
I find I really like the Gen4 grip texture, and it fits my hand better, with no backstrap installed.

If you already own a Gen3 Glock 17 like I do, and you get the urge to trade it for a Gen5 Glock 17, and I did have that urge when the Gen5’s first came out, you just might get a “learning experience” similar to the one I avoided.

No way would I give $400 plus my Gen3 17 for a Gen5 17 with standard sights. So I kept my Gen3 and put new aftermarket sights & a trigger assy. on it, and I’m very happy with my Gen3 17 now. I might trade it straight up for a Gen5 17 but that deal hasn’t been offered to me yet. It’s always nice to have the latest & greatest but I run away from bad deals like this, you have to maintain your principles about what is value & what is not.

Only thing I don’t really like about the gen 3 is the texture. They’re pretty slippery. I don’t like the finger grooves and usually sand them off of mine along with the Glock knuckle hump at the back of the trigger guard before installing Talon sandpaper grips.

I don’t see the need for an ambi slide release but I am interested in the gen 5 guns without forward slide serrations and without the half moon cutout on the frontstrap. But not enough to buy one yet.

You know, Glock might be smart to keep making them all.

Glock has to keep making the Gen3’s to keep selling in Cali, Gen4’s & Gen5’s aren’t rostered for non-LEO’s

Not sure which gen is the best. But i prefer a gen 3. I like the grip texture alot better. Tho i do currently carry a gen 4 19 and 17

I have two Glocks (34 and 26) both 3rd generation. When they wear out I'll replace them with the current generation Glocks.

At what point did MIM begin? Is there a date or serial number range at which MIM started?

If memory serves correctly It was right before the release of G4 in 2009.
