I use the vickers tactical, it looks like the factory release
but it sticks out a little on the top end. This feels better then the little "bump" the ghost release has.
Bought a Blue Label G19 Gen 5 earlier this year. Installed the beavertail backstrap and a set of night sights, but that is all. It's "Glock Perfection" after all.
First thing, I drift the rear sight out and install it backwards so that it shows black instead of a white outline. Second thing is to install a Ghost Edge connector. The third thing I will do is install Vickers base plates on the magazines. Those things are mandatory.
Eventually, I will possibly replace the slide release with a Vickers. If it’s a range gun, I will also replace the slide stop with an extended version.
On some of my pistols, I have splurged and installed a steel rear sight and a Ameriglo front square night sight. That’s definitely in my category of ‘nice to have’, and not ‘must have’.
When I bought my 19X I thought I might need to modify it but I always shoot a firearm quite a bit before deciding on Mods. After trying all the backstraps and shooting it in different situations I have decided it is just fine the way it is with no backstraps, the factory slide release and the factory night sights. Cheap date
Or I should say, cheaper date than some of my past guns.
I prefer the polymer sights to steel for durability. I've bent and damaged steel sights dropping my guns, I've never damaged a polymer sight. Most people seem to feel the opposite is true and I guess I am only going on my own anecdotal experience but polymer handles concrete drops better than steel based on the two times I've done it so far.
Sights. Not sure why Glock has never went with better stock sights but they're the first thing to go.
Other than that I usually put in a grip plug for the hole in the back but that's completely for aesthetic reasons and doesn't really do anything functional.
I bought a brand-new Gen 4 G19 last year and the mods I did right away were extended slide release lever, Ghost Edge 3.5 trigger connector, trigger bar and striker safety plunger polish, and Ameriglo Spartan Operator night sights. I just recently undercut the trigger guard with a dremel and I wish I had done it sooner, it's a must-have on the smaller G19 grip.
Night sights and the Vickers Tactical extended slide stop and slide release on Gen 3 guns. Night sights and Vickers Tactical extended slide stop on the Gen 4 guns. No need to cuss about with anything else. Having said all of the foregoing, I'll still take an out of the box Walther, Smith and Wesson, or Sig any day over a Glock based on ergonomics.
