Got in a wreck today

MY chair lives in the trunk. My wife helps me get it out and put it back in there. I can walk and stand, just not for long. If we go somewhere and we don't me to get real grouchy with pain real fast, we take the chair.

As to the gun in the glove box, we would have to be hit pretty darned bad to pop the latched box open and we would have all sorts of other issues higher on the radar at that instant! :what: If left in one or 2 larger pieces, THEN I may be inclined to look for it for one of 2 reasons I can come up with right off the top of my head...

I now have a small Fanny pack stuffed under the passenger seat I can easily grab and use to conceal the gun should we need to abandon the car or should I need to take to the chair away from the car.

Update: Got a lawyer. Also, my insurance company is denying the claims against me by the two cars that did all the hitting of other vehicles as well as our car.

Now for the gun related bit. I have a VA CCW. If the judge wants to be a "Richard", can he revoke my permit? According to my lawyer and my insurance company, the initial charge of reckless driving is sure to be reduced if not dropped entirely.

Do NOT slow down to get someone off your ass. Speed up, even if ya have to do 100mph to get out of their way. If they are stupid enough to tailgate you, they are stupid enough to take out you and several others as well.
I'm glad you and your wife are ... okay. However, I strongly disagree with your advice. People who tailgate will just tailgate at a higher rate of speed, no matter how fast you allow them to push you. The only way to get 'em off your bumper is to slow down. I don't mean slow down to the speed limit, I mean SLOW DOWN. My rule of thumb is to start at 55 MPH. Each time they honk or flash I slow down another 5. They usually get the message by 45 or 40.

I just re-read the entire thread, and there's a lingering question. You stated (I believe) that at no time did you inform the responding officer that you had a gun in the glovebox. You're in Louisiana? Your state law doesn't require you to notify? In most states with laws requiring you to inform an officer, the law doesn't just say "when stopped for speeding," typically it covers any official interaction with a police officer. I'm a bit surprised you didn't inform him even if it isn't required by the law in your state.

I'm originally from Louisiana and Louisiana is where I call home but I have been living in VA for almost 5 years now (I moved here for a job). This state does NOT require that we inform the police we are armed when we CCW. They know we have a permit when they run our drivers license and he never asked and I never offered.

Slowing down is good advice with one limitation, that being the rate at which you slow down. Some times simply taking your foot off the accelerator can cause a tailgator to rear end you. This is especially true IF the Tailgator thinks you are doing so to boox him in or to annoy in with purpose. Slow down but do so while waving the offender around. NOT with one finger ! On many county roards I will even check for an openiing and wave a gator by without slowing down. While this is country the colleges in other towns and one nearby, create traffic that is often younger less experienced or more hot headed, and they like to speed.
As for the Gun Issue, After reading this thread I am going to be more diligent about always taking my gun with me when I leave the vehicle, when Allowed by law. BTW if you are irate with another person while driving thnk how that will look when the LEO sizes you up. First impressions can mean everything in the situation. I am guilty of being too "in control " and look like I am about to explode. I have had to learn to channel and state my feelings in a positive manor especially when dealing with others who may be enraged that I didn't show any emotion at all.
