What do you think are some great rifle cartridges that make sense, but are not that popular.

The 260 Remington and the 280 Remington come to mind.

Iv always loved the 8mm remington magnum. Id love to own a rifle chambered in it even tho I have no use for a cartridge that powerful. for what ever reason it never caught on

I really like the 9.3x62, which is big in Europe but not so much here in the states. I know that there are other rounds that may be "better", but its pleasant to shoot and packs a punch.

Are there any bad cartridges?

300sav,35 rem, anything Mauser, 358win all come to mind

posted via that mobile app with the sig lines everyone complaints about

8x57 Totally under-appreciated. 7x57 (an excellent cartridge) gets all the love, along with the Swede (my favorite) and poor old 8x57 is all but ignored.

The winner has to be 223. It packs a punch for as small and light as it is, has hardly any recoil, and has been known to stop an elephant with a single shot (heard it on the internet so it must be true). It is a rare cartridge and I don't personally know where you could possibly find one, but if you are lucky enough to shoot one, you'll be bragging about it too.

338/06, 41 magnum and 10mm in addition to the above.

All of these have niche markets and are wildly popular in small circles, but not on a large scale. Which is alright with me. If someone wants to use a less popular round just to be different these are just popular enough to be available.

.280 Remington, and .280 Ackley Improved

.338-06

.358 Norma Magnum

.257 Roberts

250/3000 Savage

.338 Federal

9.3X62mm

Basically a bunch of reasonable, extremely functional and efficient rounds that don't have the pizzazz of various "magnums" even though they do 95% (or more) of what their magnum counterpart will do minus all the recoil and blast.

The .358 Norma being an exception since it is a very powerful round that takes the .35 caliber to it's logical outer limits.

I have shot a 7.65 Argentine Mauser. It seemed to be a pretty easy to shoot round. I have no idea what the ballistics are.

The 257 Roberts is a cartridge that just makes sense too for deer and black bears. It is a shame it is hard to find guns chambered for that round.
