# guns that I'D never part with:

COLT .45acp Government Model
686 S&W 4" .357 7 shot
CZ75B 9mm

My carry is a 342PD that I'd not likely part with but doesn't make the "must have" list.

Want/Must have: target .22 Pardini, Walther, etc.

I've posted something like this before but here goes:

You need a 1911. Because by god this country's freedom was defended with such an arm. It should say Colt on the slide, though I'm open to letting it say Springfield or Valtro. JMB was on our side.

You need a 22 target pistol. After all you have a new legions of shooters to train in the art of handgunning and nobody starts off with a 454 ruger conversion.

You need snubby wheelgun. Maybe it was Jack Webb on Dragnet, or Magarret on 5-0 that kept you thinking about needing six for sure when the bad guys were packing brass knucks and icepicks. Besides, it conceals well in a small book or purse if you feel like loaning it to your significant other.

You need a hicap wondernine. It can be plastic or steel and domestic or foreign. One way to show your disgruntled attitude over the 10 shot magazine limit is to buy a pistol that holds 16 plus cartridges and HOARD all the reliable mags you can. Pass them on to future generations of patriots.

You need a cowboy gun. That's right, Lone Ranger and Tonto alike carried an SAA Colt. Well, thanks to cowboy action shooting, inexpensive Italian revolvers and Ruger, you can well afford to learn fanning, spinning loaded guns around your trigger finger and other stupid tricks ... I don't recommend either practice btw. Practice your Eastwood smile instead.

You need a big honkin anti bear projectile launching system that easily mounts in a hip holster. Not that You would knowingly PICK a fight with a brown bear in down town Detroit... but due to loss of bear habitat the big bruins have been known to roam looking for new habitat. You should be prepared. Exotics are fine, in fact encouraged. After all you really need an excuse to own a Desert eagle 50 if you aren't starring in an Action Pic right?

You NEED a pistol that has been there and done that. Where it did it and when isn't really all that important. A luger brought back by an Uncle (who traded a carton of dry socks for it for all you know) a 357 SW revolver used in a bank hiest, sold to you by a guy "in the know".. the point is it should have some dubious "history" of being fired in anger. Only the closest of your friends should be allowed to fondle or even ogle this historic firearm.

You need a BBQ gun. Never know when Anne Richards might invite you over for Brisket. See related threads. Ivory, engraved, silverplated, etc encouraged. Make sure your gunleather is equally up to the task. Besides, you always wanted a 38 super.

You need James Bond gun. Ok Man From Uncle/Alias/Our Man Flint will work in a pinch. Something that says 'shakem not stirred' and looks good in a shoulder holster under your tux jacket. The Bond series is full of relevant pistols and revolvers, it doesn't have to be a PPK.

You need a carry gun. Fininsh worn down, skateboard tape on the grip, practical sights. You don't care what it looks like this is your 'serious piece'. This is the weapon you reach for when the chips are down because it has become an extension of your hand and will. You practice with it religiously.

You need a piece of curiousa. A lemon squeezer, a Chicago palm pistol, perhaps a pepperbox. Something to tickle your intellectual needs, and yet that you can still throw laed down range in a fun, if impractical manner. Gyrojets, Dardicks, FrankenColts fall in this arena. Besides who among your friends actually HAS a 4.5mm VeloDog?

You need a smokebox. That's right. You need to get a Black powder handgun. Why? Well they still work and the mastery of pistol craft is in the shooter not the sixgun. Besides, Wild Bill, Kit Carson and John Wesly Hardin did just fine with a cap 'n ball shooter. Match it with a Bowie knife or tomohawk for when it jams or fails to fire.

You are also going to need a bigger safe.

Rob

As much as I'd like to say 4" M&P or 6" Python .357, if I had to pick one 'must have' as the post indicates...

Make it a Glock 19.

Powerful, reliable, corrosion resistant, 16 rds. of 9mm on tap, and economical to shoot as well.
