"Gun nuts" as a derrogative term

Having read some more posts .... and leaving aside my declared aversion to the term when thown at us by anti's ... there does seem some sort of justice in turning it on its head .... and we refer to them as ''Anti gun - nuts'' ... has a certain ring to it!

Note the emphasis .. not ''anti - gun nuts'' ... but definitely ... ''Anti gun - nuts'' :)

Let's see...

I've got guns manufactured in the U.S., Italy, Germany, Japan, Belgium and probably a couple others. I'm not a gun nut... I'm just enjoying multi-cultural diversity. Right?! ;)

In continuing Preacherman's logic (or lack thereof) being from Pa. would make one a Gun P-nut. And as for Tamara's "spanking a Democrat with a bullwhip crosses the line from kinky to perverted", that would be the case only if the Dem. actually liked it.

I'll routinely call myself a gun nut, in front of liberals and other hoplophobes. Then when they see how normal and rational I am, it defuses the "derogativity" of that word with respect to myself and other "gun nuts".

TamThompson :
I prefer the term "Firearm-pecan-American."
I like that!!

I dunno, maybe I'll try that. Hey I said "Gun Catfish" and the order had really big fillets today...Maybe I'll try Tam's version next Friday and see what happens. :D

Amongst friends, I can't repeat what I refer to the mis-guided souls..."Art's Grammaw" might not appreciate it.

After WW I in the peace treaty of Versailles, Germany was forced to mark all their goods for export "Made in Germany". It was meant as a punishment. Id didn't take long that this expression was the trademark of high quality, high precision goods.

May be it doesn't take too long that "Gun-Nut" becomes the trademark of law-abiding, reliable, honest, and responsible citizens, the kind of folks that become more and more rare.

I didn't know my guns had nuts!

It all depends who's saying it. It's kinda like the "n" word that seems to have become so acceptable these days. :scrutiny: I think my rifles are more offended being labeled as "assault weapons" rather than "sporting arms." If you listen very carefully at night, you can here them talking in the safe. ;) Okay, maybe I am a nut!

I don't mind 'gun nut'; as others have stated, if I use it about myself, it takes away the derogatory connotation. I’m sure we’ve all heard certain ethnic and or, uhm, alternative lifestyle groups (did I tap dance around that one or what?) refer to themselves and in their own company by terms that when used by outsiders, would be considered extremely offensive.

Conversely, ‘firearms enthusiast’ sounds unnecessarily pedantic and self-aggrandizing.

I’m a gun nut. And I’m proud.

As far as gun ownership goes, as well as any other implementation of it including CCW, I prefer to be called by Anti-2As as "Pro Choice." ;)
I prefer to call them "Blissninnies." They call me a "Gun nut" instead. I still call 'em "Blissninnies." :D

Will it ever change? Probably not...

Sorry QBG! Guilty as charged.!!:D

But this ole phart reckons he has gotten long enough in the tooth to get away with that! Ask my wife perhaps ... ''pedantic''? .. can be!! Actually ''self aggrandizing''? . nah! not if you knew me! ''Stubborn'' ... most definitely!:neener: :p

P95Carry- heh, whenever I say 'firearms enthusiast’ I feel like I should be out with the lads, in my silk cravat, Burberry field wear and Coach Leather boots. Putting down a few wild grouse, don't you know. And later perhaps a bit of sherry in the drawing room whilst we enjoy cigars and relate bawdy and ribald tales as the theme from Masterpiece Theatre plays in the background...

LOL... I crack me up.

Guess we'll all have to settle for old BDUs, paper targets, Shiner Bock on the back porch with some MarlBoros while listening to some Willie Nelson. :D

Peasant life ain't so bad. :p
