Gun Nuts!

You don't get that, because you are a liberal. You think that the government should have control over my life. That's why you're all commies.

I'm a registered republican and a realist.

Every time someones insults liberals on this site, they drive away our allies.
How does this further the agenda of RKBA?

You can continue to believe that it's my way or the highway, and that all Democrats are gun grabbing authoritan freedom haters, but the simple fact is that isn't the case.

There are examples all around us of socially liberal people re-evaluating their take on RKBA, but the majority here like to put them down because they don't go about it reigning zealous biggotry down on anyone who disagrees with their world views.

If you want to continue to believe that we can peacefully change this nations politics with out compromises, then I can't convince you other wise.

But history shows us we will have to work with the others who make up this society, bring them to our side, and come to some kind of agreement with them where we both walk away happy.

This doesn't mean we shout at them about how illogical, stupid and sheepish they are untill they argee with us........

when someone calls me a gun nut, i get this big smile on my face, and i begin to tell them that i use all of my rights to the fullest. Its why im a outspoken baptist, i talk regularly about the horrible way our govt does their job (going to take flak on that) and own as many guns as my wallet allows so on and so forth.

Gun nuts? yeah, some of my older rifles have them, it keeps them tightly together. I don't quite think I fit that description. :(

I like this topic. I am as guilty of making it political as anyone else, but for the sake of keeping this thread from being locked, can we keep the politics out of it? I know, I know. I started it. But let's just keep on topic for the rest of the thread.

My appologies to the OP for bringing politics into it.

One fairly well known gun writer started using the term 'Rifle Looney' a few years back. All in all I think I prefer 'Gun Nut'!

expvideo im unsure of the way things are in your area, but in mine i am not given a choice if i want my voice heard. i have no choice but to register Democrat if i want to vote in anything but primary elections, but i am most definatly a gun nut. i am a single issue voter, and i vote the way i feel i should.

personally i believe that republican/Democrat shoud be abolished. i believe every individual should run as an independent, that way all you would have to vote for or against anybody is what he or she stands for, not their political party

it seems to be a moniker that liberal anti gunners

Believe me, conservative anti-gunners use the same label.

Can we drop the whole "liberal" thing whenever you REALLY mean anti-gunner?

Enough politics, everyone. Please? This thread has some potential, but this kind of talk is only going to end with a lock.

The term "gun nut" in general mainstream usage has come to mean a person within a certain culture. Conservative, white, male, overweight, southern or rural, uneducated, meat-eating, unenlightened, and fundamentalist Christian. And all somehow descendants of antebellum plantation owners, even if they're from Appalachia or Minnesota. The majority of the time I hear the term in mainstream culture, this is the connotation. This is the new minority that is hated and that the rest of the "enlightened" world wants to stamp out.

I know some "gun nuts" who are long haired, tie-died, vegetarians. Some who are social minded African Americans, some who are delicate, refined and sophisticated young ladies. These are NOT what people mean when they talk about "gun nuts" outside of the gun community itself. It is NOT meant as a compliment. It is part of the new language of intolerance.

I am not talking about politics. You asked about the term. I am giving my opinion of the term from a cultural perspective. We can affectionately call ourselves "gun nuts" but make no mistake, as the good use of guns by ordinary citizens for survival, self protection, and assurance of liberty, is erased from mainstream awareness through the entertainment industry and through the relentless eradication of such depictions (Johnny can't draw a picture of his soldier cousin) the term "gun nut" is slowly but surely becoming to mean false misconceptions... say "gun nut" to the general population and they're likely to envision "racist" and "ignorant" more and more and more... it is a cultural label, a tag being relentlessly defined more and more concretely as a yellow star. The ones who say "gun nut" with that touch of contempt, are the ones who want you to register your guns. So they know where to come for you. It is the creation of the new persecuted minority - this isn't politics, I don't care if you are a Democrat or republican or something else, it is cultural. This country's culture is changing - people for whom firearms are a normal part of life are being marginalized - labeled and defined. Do things usually end well when that happens to a culture?

The negative connotation to "Gun Nut" gives me the mental picture of an out of shape, anti-government type with a bunker full of beans and ammo. I don't like to be associated with those types.

Why is it that anything gun related seems to attract the whack-jobs? The anti-government conspiracy loonies, the white supremacists, the urban ninjas, the poser commandos, the people that claim to be former Marine Corps snipers or Navy SEALs, and so on? The normal people crowd is much larger in the gun community, but it seems that the most outspoken of us also seem to also be the most bat**it crazy.

Finally a trucknuts reference. I was beginning to think I would have to do it myself.

For myself, I am a marksman. I may not be a particularly good marksman, but I spend a significant amount of my free time in pursuit of hitting what I shoot at. This includes reading, shooting, reloading and casting bullets. If I could legally and safely make my own smokeless powder and primers, I probably would.

Well, Jerkface is an apropro moniker with that attitude.

I'm also referred to as a "car nut".

I don't take offense to "gun nut", and I've mostly been called that by ultra-conservative, fundamentalist christian republicans.

I've been called everything under the sun. Nothing really offends me, but that doesn't mean I like what I'm called.

When people label others as gun nuts, antis, conservatives, liberals, Republicans, Democrats, facists, commies...they are excusing themselves from really thinking by letting the label do the thinking for them.
