Help me understand reasons for an AR pistol, please.

I shoot my AR pistol like a rifle. I have a padded sleeve that slips over the buffer tube, and get a nice 3rd point of contact with my cheek weld. The recoil isn't so bad that you need the shoulder stock on a 5.56 pistol. It's heavy enough to absorb most of what little recoil there is. Yes, they are extremely loud. I had difficulty with iron sights at forst, then went with a red dot. Off hand standing, with a cheek weld, it's accurate enough, as one would expect from the 5.56 round. I'm not MOA at 100 yards, but at 50 (standing) I'm punching holes in the inside ring of a paper plate. I've not measured, but eyeballin' I'd say my AR pistol with 10.5" barrel is a good 4-5 MOA. If supported, I could expect to drop that down to a more reasonable 3 MOA at 100 yards, or less.

@ malamute,

The A2 grip is too small and too canted for me to get a good purchase on the grip and still manage the trigger. The angle is too steep. A2 grips will do but it doesn't help control the gun like a more upright grip will IMO. Think 1911. The recoil is in your hands, not your shoulder.

Havent tried a traditional 2 handed pistol grip personally. The sig brace might work better for this. IDK but prairie dogs would be an Endangers species well past 200 yards

I agree about the trigger reach could be longer for best effect.

I havent thought of the angle being an issue. I may like a different angle if I tried it, however, the best feeling self loading rifle I've handled besides the A2 stocked 20" AR is an FN FAL. I really like the grip angle on them.

I dont think I'd like a Sig brace for two handed pistol type use. Being strapped into a pistol seems a bit weird for some reason.
