How many guns do you carry and why?

Usually 2. One Kimber.45 acp or CZ 75B 9mm on the right and an old S&W mod 36 snubby chiefs spec. IWB on the left. Also have one easily accessable but snuggly secured Sec. 6 in the car that fits nicely against the drivers seat. Sometimes in the winter I may carry the S&W Mod 14 4" in a shoulder rig but not often. Kinda depends on the neighborhood I have to be in at the time. When driving I like to have one I can just reach for without the difficulty of pulling it out from IWB and the safety belt. But just 2 most of the time.

M43 FIRESTAR on my strong side, with 2 extra mags on my belt
NAA .32 AUTO in a ankle holster, with 1extra mag in pouch on ankle holster
NAA .22LR REVOLVER in weak side front pocket
KA-BAR K-2 FOLDER clipped on strong side front pocket
KOBALT TACTICAL FLASHLIGHT weak side back pocket
:scrutiny:why so much?because its better to have it and not need it,than need it and not have it!

NY reload random thoughts...

Murphy's Law is real!

I generally carry two.

I'm not paranoid about firefights...I'm paranoid about mechanical things. (I heard something about Toyota having a recall--how could THAT happen  )

MOST of the time they take the same reload. Early in my career I would carry a Ruger SP101 stoked with 125g .357's. I would have a Smith 642 in the pocket. The same 5 round speedloaders fit both.

Next up were two Smith's-- 3913 and a 3953 with shortened grip. Both take the same mags as reloads. These were thin & light enough I could've carried a third one but didn't.

Lately I've been experimenting with a FS M&P .40 with a 40 compact as a second gun. Again both take the same mags for reloads.

As a side note, years ago some friends that were working patrol in some tougher areas always carried a 442/642 in their pants or coat pocket. Whenever they walked into a dicey situation or even had a traffic stop, the off hand was on the revolver ready to shoot through cloth or draw quickly.

Side note 2: Just saw Unforgiven the other day. ...."Sheesh Clyde...you have 3 pistols and only one arm.....Well I just don't want to be killed for a lack of shootin' back."

2 for me; pistol or revolver on the hip with an SP101 on the ankle with a speed strip reload in the pocket. In addition to the sped strip I'll carry a an extra mag on the waist if it happens to be a day where I go with the autoloader.

One Browning Hi-Power only. Still considering a pocket gun to supplement my winter defense.

one gun in the Marines...cool..but in civy life do you have a patrol/squad with you, armed with m4s/203s/240/249s...

probably not so why not.

usually 1 gun and one extended mag reload. If dept. let me carry a more variety of weapons and i had the money to buy one, I'd carry a BUG.

As I posted in another thread.....

"As for even carrying a back up, if you're on the job I don't see why you wouldn't. If you're just a CCW holder whats the point? As mentioned above you carry to defend yourself and your family and the chances of a prolonged firefight where you would need a backup are very very low. Usually if you pull your CCW gun, fire and have a malfunction the BG's will be running away because you are not the easy mark they thought you were. Very few of them would continue to go after you so you have the time to clear the malfuntion and wait for Police. Plus, the lawyers will eat you alive during the criminal trial and the following civil suit because they will say you were out looking to shoot someone since you carry multiple guns. Just a little food for thought... If you feel the need to carry a BUG more power to you. Just remember how the libs on the jury are going to see things!"

To us you are a fellow armed citizen that likes to be prepared for the worst even if it's just a tad bit paranoid. To them you'll be some crazy gun carrying fool that was armed to the teeth and out looking for a fight. You may not be charged criminally if you are lucky but you'll probably get sued and lose.

All these turds on the street have families that don't care about them and what they do right?

It's true till something happens to them then the whole family will come out and say that that kid who tried to kill you was such a wondeful boy, that he wasn't in a gang and would never do such as thing as they file the civil suit against you. At that point you are now a pay check! When they bring up the fact you had a gun everywhere you could conceal one and three knives you'll be picking up the kids and heading to the local shelter as the turds family moves into your house. If you really have that much of a lack of trust in your primary carry gun and feel you need a BUG you should probably sell it. If you still feel the need to carry a BUG go for it I'm just trying giving you a POV that might get you in some hot water some day....

LEO's are sued all the time for justified shootings... The perk LEO's get is that the Department forks over settlement cash because they were justified in performance of their duties and it goes away. You'll be spending years and every cent you have fighting your case. If you lose you'll be out everything. If you win you still may be out everything because all the money spent fighting it and the time you took off work to do it (if you even still have a job at this point).

Just one.

If I feel that one gun is not enough, I carry a bigger gun with larger capacity.

If 10 rounds of 9mm (my largest carry) is not enough, then I suck at shooting and deserve my fate.

If I'm worried about reliability, I don't carry it.

I thought I had answered this one already. Perhaps I am thinking of a different forum?

Well, it depends on what I am carrying, and where I am going. Sometimes just one, two is the usual, three is not unusual, and four is not too rare. Sometimes, the third and/or fourth come along in a computer bag, to avoid the trouble of opening the safe. (My laptop bag is large enough for a big laptop, but my present netbook is tiny.)

I have excluded my work hours. I wear a badge, and carry a small arsenal on duty.

I have carried more than one in the past, but that's rare, as if i can't get it done with one, i'm not going to get it done!

I don't-won't live in a high crime area, or a place packed with people, so it's a non-issue for me.

I see the problem with multiple handguns (except for LEOs) as being a sure way to get tagged with the "gun nut" label if a situation gets to court. With the exception of military service, I've gotten this far without having to draw a weapon. It's unlikely I'll ever need to draw it and even more unlikely I'd need a BUG. I think of it as having one in the chamber and six reloads.

I usually carry one and depending on where I'm going it's either a G19 in my lower back (main carry when wife is with me) or a Kimber Crimson Carry on strong side. If I'm going to a mall late at night then I carry extra mags if it's just the usual run around then no spare mags. I've carried both on me at the same time once and it wasn't uncomfortable but didn't make me feel anymore safe than if I were just carrying one.

My wife and I even have a set up that if we get held up I stand in front of her and she reaches for my G19 that's at my lower back. And it ALWAYS has one in the chamber and 15 in the mag.

I usually carry 2, primary is an H&K Full Size USP Tactical .45 with threaded barrel. I know a lot of people say that carrying a full size gun like this is hard or uncomfortable, my answer has always been, and will always be, "if your choosing your carry gun based on how comfortable it is then your priorities are out of alignment." I am not a huge guy, kind of average, 6' tall and 225 Lbs and I have learned how to wear clothes so that the gun does not show. And after about a year of having it dig into my side it finely became comfortable, and I hardly notice that it is there anymore. My BUG is either a Ruger SP101 with Crimson Trace grips, or a H&K USP Compact Tactical (it is also .45) I carry my primary on my strong-side and my backup in a ankle holster or a small of back holster.

I also have a RRA Lar-8 in the truck with 5 mags.

I understand any and all reasoning for carrying a second gun or a reload.

I carry a Glock 23 with a full high cap mag 13 rounds and one in the pipe.

IF I am going out of town and possibly into a "bad" area in my line of work, I might toss in a spare full magazine.

I can certainly see justification for a "BUG" depending on the location.

Unlikely.

13-413. No civil liability for justified conduct

No person in this state shall be subject to civil liability for engaging in conduct otherwise justified pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.

If it's NOT ruled justified a person might have a lot worse things to worry about.

Usually one, many times two, depending on what I have available. I carry a spare tire in case one of four breaks, and a fire extinguisher in case of a fire, not to mention a whole host of other safety gear, just in case, many times related to mechanical failure, and these are highly engineered and very expensive automobiles. I have NOT yet figured out how to cheaply carry a spare car, however.... :)
Right now I am proving naysayers wrong by concealing a duty sized CZ SP-01 Phantom with the normal capacity 18 round mags, just to show it can be done. Not the easiest thing to conceal, but it can be done. ;) Good backup for my CZ P-01.
Evan Marshall of Stopping Power fame, with 23 years on the street in one of the roughest towns around, Detroit, carries three handguns daily, in a neighborhood where he says, "someone stealing a bicycle is a crime wave." He's been there, done that, battle scars to prove it. I'll listen to a voice of experiance, and carry a second gun as often as I can.
