So, What Firearms and Cartridge choice….

If The Rule is Only three, or you had only three, or Three was the max amount of Firearms /Cartridges you had…. what would those 3 be? Let’s forget why only 3, and Let it be.

For Sake of Conversation- Let’s keep a few rules.

1) No “Lazer” Guns
2) No Class 3
3) No Multi barrel/Switcheroo calibers.
4) No bickering, just good old gun fun talk.
5) Semi/Single/Revolver/Black powder - Whatever- Just be realistic, what a normal guy would be able to obtain.
6)What Firearms ,What calibers are your 3 choices

So What will it be , For Just 3 ? Feel free to say why, only those 3.

Ill jump in, if I can answer this- Becouse it’s a tough question- Yet I’d like to know what you all Would choose.

Thanks for Your time and reply.

Ruger 10/22. Would serve as the primary recreation and fun gun. Great for small game. Cheap to feed. Tons of adds ons and parts everywhere.

SIG P365. I would have to have a CCW pistol, and the P365 is very small yet had good power and capacity. It can even be used with larger capacity magazines and make for a decent substitute for a larger “service” sized gun in a pinch. Tough to pick just one handgun for many tasks but this would be the one.

AK. When it all goes to heck, and also deer and hog or other larger game. Also fun to shoot and excellent for defense.

I like shotguns, but don’t really bird hunt and any game I’d ever want to shoot could be handled with the .22 and AK easily. An AK can also be employed for defensive duties so really a shotgun wouldn’t give me much.

Mmm. Given three guns only ? Mmm. I’ll play.

Marlin 336 (30-30 Winchester)- Capable of killing anything around me I need to kill, game wise, or any other threat-wise; and is politically correct.

H&R Topper (12ga)- quite literally loads for anything and everything from birds to bear, and can be readily and quickly taught and *learned* by even a novice.

Ruger SP101 (3”, .357 Magnum)- my gun for when I can’t shove a sawed off down my trousers.... .38 Spl for practice and low recoil target work, .357 Magnum for serious purposes. Built like an absolute tank, and able to be taught and *learned* by even a novice.

In a way that's actually tougher than the "If you only had one gun" scenario.

1) Ruger Bisley Flattop in .44 Special. My favorite old friend. Need to have it engraved some day.

And now the going gets tough. I really ought to have a rifle and a shotgun. And a .22 rimfire. But what about a carry piece? The Ruger would do, I suppose, but not all that well. Hmm...

2) Alright. The carry gun is important, and it's another favorite. S&W Model 19 in .357 Magnum.

3) Apparently I'm a handgunner. I can live without a rifle, I guess. I'm no good with them anyway. And I hate to keep house without a shotgun. A .22 is just too important, though, so #3 is my old K-22 "Combat Masterpiece".

I'm sure glad I don't have to live with a three gun limit, but at least now I know what I'll grab when the house catches fire.

More rules would actually help like can we use whatever cartridges for anything, a 22 would be nice for small game and plinking but if you can use a 223 that opens more options.

Ok 3

Example- I’d take a Model 7 Remington in 223 and a 541 in 22lr with a 38 model 10 s&w

Those would be the caliber/cartridge/firearms

Today’s Laws, Hunting and otherwise must be The guidelines… I guess.

Let’s not over think it.

Well, for the sake of argument then:

  1. 9mm- HK P2000 Bill Spingfield LEM
  2. 12g- Beretta 1301 Tactical
  3. 5.56 NATO- PWS Mk114 Mod 1carbine (okay, I guess this one might technically be .223 Wylde- if that's not acceptable than my CZ Bren 805 or the newer Bren 2).

I am at heart a revolver lover but only 3? That's easy.
1 870 Rem in 12 gauge
2 AR 15 midlength with carry handle A2 type site
3 S&W M&P 9 2.0 9mm

I chose these for this exercise because IMO even in an apocalyptic situation ammo will probably be around, even if I had to use questionable means to acquire it.
I might trade out the AR for a 10/22 because the 870 still covers alot of defensive and hunting purposes. That would be a tough call.

I was thinking about calibers first…and there are really 5 that are my “go to’s”…..22, 9MM, .223, 7MM mag, and 12 gauge.

but the OP said just three…..this is hard!

First gun I’d have to go with, as it would be my “if only one” choice, would be a Glock 19/17. Probably go with the 19.

Second choice has to be a Ruger 10-22. I really like that gun a lot.

Third choice is where I am stuck. Rifle or shotgun? Hmmmmmm…….

Rifle makes a lot of sense. A Scout style rifle like Jeff Cooper believed in would have a lot of merit, as would a lever action in a flat shooting cartridge. An AR is a good choice…been doing the job for a long time.

But after much thought, and internal debate….I’m going with my tried and true CZ712 12 gauge auto loaders. It shoots every type of shell without any issue, from birdshot to slugs. So yep, a 12 gauge shotgun…for sure…

At least for tonight. Tomorrow may be a different story!
