Jim Zumbo on "Assault rifles for hunters"

What a Jerk. He would call ARs and AKs "Terrorist Rifles". He is a real help to the shooting world. He does not belive they should be used in the field as varmint rifles.
Well Zumbo the AR15 H-Bar is one rugged, fine shooting machine. In this very cold high country its tops for coyote shoot'in. We should all say no to this guy.:fire:

We don't need to be lumped into the group of people who terrorize the world with them, which is an obvious concern.

What a F'n idiot.

This is a major problem with some hunters... They think that the 2A only applies to their Remington Model 700 and their win 94's. These types are just pissed off that a lowly semi auto can out shoot their bolt guns.

This guy is traitor of the lowest order. "one of us" who will sell the rest of us down the river. May the fleas of 1000 camels infest his crotch.

Oops...I thought I checked to see if there was already a thread on this.

Won't be long now for his status in Wyoming to become Personna Non Grata, since many hunters here use AKs, Sks, and AR10s to hunt not only varmints but also deer and antelope. Just another celebrity with a big ego.

Unforunately Jim Zumbo is not alone in his flawed thinking. Generations of Americans believe the 2nd Amendment is about hunting. They are wrong, but that won't help the situation. Now even the word militia denotes evil. Zumbo does his country a great disservice, more then he will ever know. He and people like him need to read more history, but that is a pas'se thing to do. Most parents frown on history and people who read it, well there's something wrong with them, so why would their children bother. More grow up believing in this line: BAD= militia, assault weapons, 2nd Amend is about hunting, pistol grips on a rifle, large capacity magazines.

You reckon the editors mumbled and finally concluded, "Well, let's run it and see what happens."

From browsing the responses at the website, they sure found out, right? :D

You'd think a guy who'd been around as long as Jimbo would realize we hang together or we hang separately...

anytime someone in a position to educate and inform the public and especially from within the gun enthusiest community trashes another group of legal gun owners especially when they lack the knowledge or understanding of the topic (as shown by his appology statement) it harms all of our cause. There are a lot of different type of shooters that often do not see eye to eye, but all in all we enjoy a constitutionally protected right that is constantly under attack and systematically being whittled away by unknowledgable reactionary and misinformed people. When the SPCA protests hunting, the CCW folk normally stay out of it. When the AWB drums start beating trap shooters don't think they will be affected. When gun bills turn into laws the antis are emboldened to try newer and tighter controls, this affects all of us. When Zumbo basically calls a group of legal gun owners terrorists and says that the mere sight of "assault rifles" will frighten people he is buying into the same uninformed load that the bradys are spewing, unfortunately for him they probably group his "sporting arms" into the sniper rifle category and hunters in general as abusive and cruel to animals. Unfortunately for all of us it looks like he has failed at his job to inform and educate his readers and not to spread ignorance.

I wrote a response on the OL site. Also mentioned I won't be renewing my subscription until Zumbo is gone or apologizes for his stupid comments. I can get along just fine without OL.

Zumbo apologized, but was sorta mealy-mouthed and had all manner of excuses.

I wouldn't cancel a subscription over one guy's column. Given the number of responses, I'd have to say they got quite a practical education in the real world of shooting.

Besides, I wrote a letter for the hardcopy publication, not the online. Lemme know if it gets printed. :D

Competitive AR15 shooters

All NRA and CMP Sanctioned matches REQUIRE shooters to belong to their CMP state affiliated program and the NRA. It's that simple. That money largely goes into defending the Second Amendment for all of us.

Hunters typically don't belong to anything. They give the state money which the state uses as the state sees fit.

The TSRA runs on competitive shooters dollars. Our lobby got the concealed carry passed. This session it's the castle doctrine. Last session we made the CCL a better deal and tried to sort out "travelling" with firearms.

The hunters? Well.....they really don't want to be involved. They know even Clinton promised not to take away their duck guns and deer rifles. That's good enough.

I hunt. I shot doe tags today in Texas. I'd be embarrassed if my hunting liscense fee was all I paid or thought ANY of that money went to preserving anything but the state monopoly.

Zumbo ought to go the way of the Dixie Chicks.

Yup, but on the bright side Remington stood up on the side of the Angels. Might be a good idea to go down to the store and get yourself a nice box of Remington ammunition.

Oh yeah, and duplicate thread. :)
