I was stuck in traffic today & after got tired of counting refletive dots on separating the lanes, I got to thinking about guns.
Now, most shooters I know have a favorite...whether it's a 1911, a Glock, HK, SIG whatever. This gun makes it to the range the most & is shot better than anything else in the collection.

My question is this, if you have a favorite, why keep buying guns that aren't similar to it? For example...your fav is a govt model 1911, why not just get an officer's model for CCW or a 6" 686 & a 2-1/2" 686 for carry?

Well...my favorite gun is my Steyr...but I think it is a git ungainly for carry...at least with the type of clothes that I normally wear...And truth be told...I dont own many guns...but of all the similar sized pistols I have shot...I am always MOST pleased with my original choice.

So anyhoo...I may be investing in something small in the near future...a mouse gun of sorts...and I really havent shot any mouseguns...so who knows...maybe I will find my next favorite gun somewhere in the micro mini category.

Because my favorite changes monthly if not weekly :D

By the time my 10-day waiting period is up I have a new favorite....

I have different guns for different roles, competition, carry, etc. but thinking on consolidating all of them into carry guns that perform well for competiton and not the other way around.

42 years ago at the age of 6 I shot my first 1911, been my favorite every since. CCW, hunted, target, games, HD, Business Defence, camping, hiking canoeing, fishing..".Slabsides" just part of my life.

While I don't have a favorite gun, I do have a favorite caliber,
.38 spl. ! I have three of them, for different purposes. A M-36
snubby for CCW, M-10 snubby also for CCW ( when wearing a coat- it's a K-frame), and my favorite for shooting bowling pins and woods loafing ( just walkin' around in the woods or hunting)
a M-67. Bob

I completely agree with Bob. All of my hand guns are S&W revolvers, & except for my K22, there all .38's or .38/357's. It's hard to pick a favorite. My 686-5 Snubby is my work gun. My pre-28 & K22 are my favorite target shooter’s. My M&P's are the best “do everything†guns, and my pre-36 is my nightstand Queen. When you collect, they are all your favorites.

My favorite gun is the Walther P88. I am working on acquiring a P88 compact for possible carry, but it is a $900 dollar gun, so I will probably stick with my P99.

My favorite handgun is the Government Model 1911. I use it for carry and I plan on getting another 5" Govt Model for carry :D

Seriously, I think that most people that are gunmongers suffer from the dreaded "iwannacoolgunvirus" that El Tejon keeps telling us about.

well i am stuck on Walthers.............i so badly want a PPK in 7.65 , a german made one.......but Earl is selling them for about $1300..........and thats a little high.................i hear SW/Walther are rereleasing the PPK soon, its a US one....but heck, it will be cheaper.......and for a carry weapon , i wouldnt want to carry a collectors item as my CCW anyway...

Or maybe some of us just like guns. Go figure.

When I was younger, I could name things that were my "favorites"; "favorite movie", "favorite song", "favorite book". I could produce little top ten lists and obsessively rank everything. I don't do that any more.

If you know what your favorite CD is, why buy any others? Just make a few copies of that one and keep one in your home deck, one in your Discman and one in your car... ;)

Tamara's right.

I don't have a favorite. I have "keepers", and I like them all for their own attributes.

Come on Tam, you know I have 4 copies of every CD. One in my CD player at home, one in my ride, one to use as a loaner, and one cached off-property. :D

I know the feeling of wanting and buying guns that I don't need...I recently bought a Makarov. I had it sitting next to my 1911 on my desk and thought, "Now what the hell am I going to do with this thing?

I like guns too, but at this point its dumb for me to buy anything that won't fit into my practical battery. And most of the time when I buy a gun that is outside of my practical battery, I'll admit its nothing but "iwannacoolgunvirus" :)

Daniel,

I know the feeling of wanting and buying guns that I don't need...

Need?!? Need?!? Where does "need" enter the picture?

If it was about "need", you'd have kept that Makarov and sold the 1911, as the Makarov would've covered your "needs" nicely.

If we lived in a world based on "needs", I'd've kept using this Celeron 500 for games, instead of buying a new P4 2.2 for games and relegating the Celeron to web-surfing duties.

If we lived in a world based on "needs", I'd drive a Camry wagon instead of a BMW roadster.

If we lived in a world based on "needs", I wouldn't own a motorcycle.

If we lived in a world based on "needs", El Tejon wouldn't've come down with "Iwannacoolgunskulvirus" and spent the GDP of many Third World nations attending GunForce Ranch every other week, since that is (by any honest estimation) golf with 1911s, rather than something absolutely necessary for survival on the mean streets of Suburbia, USA.

I spit on "need". ;)

I think must have at least 12 CDs with Foggy Mountain Breakdown laying around Fortress Skunkabilly :D

I still haven't found the gun I want to marry.

Favorites??

Man don't make me choose.

Funny thing though, when those Argentine "Detective" Hi-Powers were on the market I was tempted, though they weren't that much smaller than a standard. Don't think I've ever seen a longslide hi-power.

And I've only seen one Fitzpatrick Special cut down from a New Service Army, and the guy wanted a LOT of money for it.

I already have a Commander and a full sized 1911, to me the Officer's model is ugly.

You know, after getting a 7 inch Vaquero I want a 5 inch one.

Now where can I get a long slide 1908 vest pocket pistol?

Tamara- You got me! I am a dyed-in-the-wool коммунистический! The evidence is all there...hey I gotta run to my Corporate Accounting exam in my M-B :D

Comrade,

Prove you're a communist. Lose that pricey Western gadget and keep your Makarov. After all, you don't really need anything more. Anyone using a 1911 obviously has Iwannacoolgunvirus, especially if it's a Colt! (Doubly so if it's a Les-freaking-Baer! :D )

:neener:

? For example...your fav is a govt model 1911, why not just get an officer's model for CCW or a 6" 686 & a 2-1/2" 686 for carry?
I couldn't agree more. Mine is a custom stainless Colt Mark IV, and I love the 1911 so much that I had to have one in 10mm. That's when I bought the Delta Elite. Even as recent as just weeks ago, I had to have a carry 1911. Enter the Kimber Ultra CDP II. Don't get me wrong, I like all my guns fine; my Rugers, my Glock, my USPc, but the 1911 just does it for me. I'm probably not done buying them yet. I could still use a Commander, a Govt model in .38 Super, and for sure a Les Baer custom.

Today: Glocks..

Tomorrow: *shrug* I'll probably be slobbering over H&K's again..

The day after that: Who knows?? Maybe I'll give a souped-up 1911 a shot..<---- Did I actually say that??:uhoh:
Where are my meds?! I left that bottle around here somewhere!! :D

This is why I have collected a few USPs and sold off my 1911's. I've USPs in small, medium & large now. I'd go for extra large, but CA legal SOCOMs are few & far between.

Trisha, you have big hands for a lady :D

(Skunk = has small little paws and can't reach a darn thing on them Deagles)
