Frankly, after running an 870 for all these years I'd hate to try to adapt to a forward-back pump system like the Neostead's

Can't say for sure having never seen, let alone shot a Neostead, but I would think that the idea of the forward pump would be to have recoil assist in the reloading.

Am I the only one wondering why they didn't eject the spent casing while the gun was in recoil and feed the next round while coming back on target?

Cause they were showing the functionality of the gun and not teaching a combat shotgun course.

;)

Much as i hate to pass such an innovative design by, think I'll be passing too. $800 is a decent chunk of change and I'd rather pick up a mossy 930 semi auto, then blow the remaining $200 on accessories or a keltec 9mm.

And here's the KSG with its knickers down... not made up of a billion parts, that's a good sign.

would be more appealing in the semi-auto flavor though.

I'll say this as to it being a pump. A semi that ran well would probably be cooler. A pump is probably easier for them to make run right. Anyone who has had trigger time on a gun that wouldn't run knows it pretty much eliminates not only the practicality of the weapon but the fun factor of using it as well. In sum, a pump has better odds of working well and I'd rather have a pump than a semi with issues.

Agreed, reliability at that capacity first.
Unless you're involved with adult gaming, how fast you can empty a shotgun is usually not the first consideration.

Even in the real world, the speed at which you can empty a shotgun isn't dependent on if it's action is a pump or semi-auto...it is how fast you can get the sights to return onto target.

The fastest shotgun shooter I have personally seen, John Satterwhite, did his fastest demonstrations with a pump action shotgun. He was shooting for H&K at the time and said the Benelli action just couldn't keep up with his shooting speed

You know, on second thought, if the MSRP is $800, it might sell around $675. I can see it making a good truck good for sure.

Unless you're involved in adult gaming, there's very little need for you to have 14 rounds of shotty. cwutididthere?

Sure there is no need but you can have 7 rounds of buck and 7 rounds of slugs. No need for a side sattle on this gun.

Okay.... For those with recent experience in the sandbox, would something like this work out for close in work in that environement? I've seen videos of house clearing with the recent M-whatever and wonder if this sort of mega-shotgun would work well for that application. Just curious as to weather or not that might not be a reasonable application.

What's "recent"? I was in Afghanistan in 2001, and Iraq in 2003. I would not want to be stuck with a shotgun out there. With the shotgun range is extremely limited, ammunition capacity is way low, extra ammunition is way heavy, reloading is way slow, and performance against body armor is dismal.

I can carry 240 rounds of 5.56mm in six 30-round magazines. It only weighs a few pounds and I can reload with 30 rounds in seconds. 240 rounds of 12ga. will feel like it weighs a ton. If I'm patrolling down a street and a bad guy steps out 50 yards away I would rather a) stick a 5.56 in his chest, than b) spray buckshot and hope that I get some kind of hit and he's not wearing armor.

I know you said "close-in work", but that's not always the name of the game. I can't guarantee that everything will be close-in. On any given patrol I may have to clear rooms, that's true. But to get there I might be walking through a city street where shots could be 100 yards down the road. I might be riding there on a road that goes out of the city where shots could be hundreds of yards. I suppose you could carry this shotgun and use it only when room-clearing, but I don't want to have to carry a whole extra piece of gear just for that. It adds weight, and what do I do with it when I'm not using it? It would be a real pain to have that thing slung and flopping around when I'm in a fight with my rifle.

I don't much like shotguns, but I would love to have one of these. I mean, no need to use bulky side saddles and the ability to alternate ammo with the flip of a switch! That is so awesome.

According this video they should not be much more than a base level AR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT9P4B9JBd8
