Let's see the .22 rifles that make you smile

A nudder experienced Remington, my 511 made in 1945;

With the bolt action and 25" barrel it usta was perhaps the most accurate 22 I owned; but they don't make targets like they used to and modern targets keep ignoring my shots. Things these days just ain't like they was; even the ground is further away then when I was young.

Love my old Marlin 60s. I have to say though that tube fed bolt action is a thing of beauty.
That 881 was at a local pawn shop for about a year with a too high for me price. I finally told them I would love to buy it, but not at that price. I walked out with it for $200. I don't think it had ever been shot. The color wasn't even worn on the feed lips of the cartridge elevator.

I have lately begun to think a tube magazine might be better in a 22 because the whole unit is self contained. I'm sure it could be messed up, but the tube is there attached. I can see a rifle with a detachable magazine being stored separately and more easily getting lost. Presently all my 22 rifles are tube fed. 2 M60s and a Henry H001.

The dumbest - well one of the dumbest, cause there's plenty - thing I ever did was trade a 512 X for a K 98.

I don't think I have posted this Marlin model 80DL here with the Leupold 3-9 rimfire scope attached. I have owned the rifle at least 50 years. I finally got my right eye repaired and sighted in again recently, I can actually focus with the scope now.

Just found out that Imgur has improved/simplified their photo sharing site so much, I haven't figured out how to use it. :-(

Have a blessed day,

Leon

One of my first 22s was a JC Higgins 42 that was the Marlin model 80 (not the delux stock though).

Sadly, it's no longer made anymore but my favorite .22 rifle is the Remington Nylon 66. I wish Remington would bring this rifle back again.

I thought Remington sold out to Freedom Arms, and is now dead, or has someone else bought it?

From everything I've heard about Freedom Arms, I probably wouldn't buy anything they're involved with without serious research first.

Freedom arms is one of the finest firearms companies on earth, not to be confused with the freedom group who destroys companies by cost saving measures that produce junk. Freedom group is who's responsible for the destruction of remington, marlin and others. Not the same company at all.

Thank you for the correction Obturation!

Grandpas stevens model 66 (.22LR, L, S) with vintage weaver B4 scope. Pre serial numbers, It was already old when I got it 50 years ago. It’s still accurate, better since I cleaned it thoroughly, recrowned the barrel and lightly worked the trigger.
It has probably bagged a truckload of squirrels and rabbits as well as a good number of barn pigeons with .22 shorts.
Most recently my granddaughters have been having fun plinking with it.
Dangit I can’t get pic to load!

On the pink rifle at the top of the picture, the red dot sight placement is questionable considering this is a youth rifle. I youth’s small head would mean there wouldn’t be a cheek weld at all, perhaps not even a chin weld. Does your daughter struggle with this rifle?
The granddaughters not only struggled with it because they couldn't get any kind of weld and were just goose-necking, so it was near impossible to hit anything with it. I finally put a 4x Weaver on it that sits lower but they still struggled as it was still too high. I ended up putting a cheek riser on it and solved the problem.

Three come to mind.

Years of fond memories of the 510 Targetmaster, given to me by a close friend of my dad's when I was 9 years old began my love affair with the shooting sports and has served 3 generations of my family well, for 76 years.

After adding a Weaver B4 scope on the rifle years later, used it to teach my wife to shoot, and when my son was 5 or 6, cut the stock and barrel short enough for him to become addicted, as well.

When instructing the youth division of our gun club, there were a number of smaller kids who just could not lift the heavy Mossberg M144US rifles on loan from the DCM, so I removed the scope, added Redfield aperture sights and dropped it in a surplus 513T stock, also cut to fit the youngsters.

Then came the grandkids, who also took their turns with the little rifle. It now belongs to them (only one rifle, so joint ownership).
Only time will tell what lies in the future of this little rifle.

Next came the Mod. 52 prone rifle, which I was told was one of several built by Creighton Audett for a college rifle team. Throat showed considerable wear, but still shot very well w/a 2" Unertl 20x scope, and I can only assume it is still punching lots of X's in the hands of it's new owner. Still brings a smile to my face.

Lastly, this little 10/22, while not in the same class as the much heavier 52, could hold its own with it's predecessor. Unreal how accurate the little rifle is and the fact that it was given to me by the son of a very dear friend who has gone on to happier hunting grounds brings back even more fond memories. RIP, Bob.

Regards,
hps
