Let's see what the most commonly owned THR milsurp caliber is.....

I should have posted this above, but why did you decide to leave out .30-06 and .45-70?
Well, Beanbag already covered those in his thread and they would have been hands down winners here.
Plus, I think they are just as much hunting rounds at this point as milsurps, despite their military roots.
Also wanted to limit it to smokeless rounds, the .45-70 was originally a black powder load. Allowing BP cartridges would have opened the door to a whole bunch of extremely rare Civil war and European calibers, so no, just no.

I would add them and note to only count them if they are chambered in an 03, 1917, garand, or trapdoor springfield. Your right though, the 06 would probably still run away with it.

I agree. Because I own a ‘03, an Eddystone, Garand and 2 Trapdoors. Doesn’t matter if it would be the winner. That’s the idea of the thread. But I still had 3 to cast a vote.

I only have a sporterized krag 30-40 and a 7.62x54r Nagant at the moment. Next on the list is a garand and an 8mm K98. I just missed out on Swedish Mauser in 95% condition a few weeks ago. Should have jumped on it.

I limited myself to only collect US military long arms.
So only a 30 Carbine and a 30/40 for me but they're real mil surp a 11/42 5 digit serial inland and a 1898 manufactured Krag DCM carbine.

Yeah, I agree you should add .30-06 and .45/70; to be checked only if it is a milsurp rifle.
I have 5 on your list but also own an original Trapdoor as well as a 1903 and a 1903A3 a couple M1s and a Columbian Mauser chambered in .30-06

Then we get into .308 milsurps: I got an FR8, a couple HK 91s, a couple M14 knockoffs, and a couple FALs. The HKs and the FALs I own are all milsurp parts kits guns. Obviously the Springfield Armory M1A is not a real milsurp but the other M14 clone I have was built by Fulton Armory with all USGI parts other than the receiver and barrel.

There were 5 on the list that I don't have so that gives me reason to look further. I ran across a 7.5 French some years ago but after I went home and spent some time researching it and then some time to think I went back to get it and the shop was closed.

I load and shoot 6.5 Mannlicher-Schoenauer not in a military surplus rifle but a custom chambered Encore. I ended up with the Encore barrel by mistake.

Guess I'm set if I ever run across a Greek or Austrian milsurp rifle.:)

I also voted for 30 Carbine and 7.62x54R.

My Granddad bought me an old sporterized Spanish Mauser rechambered in 257 Roberts when I was in high school. Does that give me a vote for the 7mm Mauser?

A lot of polls going around with very interesting choices. This ones cool. 7.62x39mm is a very popular 'milsurp' round. No option for it though. I voted on the 8mm mauser. God I love that round.

Ya, but if I'd put 7.62x39 on the list, might as well have done .308 and .223 too.....haha. Those were also covered in Beenbag's thread, and have also moved more into the "mainstream plinking/hunting" category, I think. But I get your point of course. :)

Geez, isn't it ridiculous how hard to get and expensive 8mm Mauser is now!?! WTH?

I have the opposite problem.

I have cases of 8mm Mauser that I am fairly sure I will never shoot.

I bought it back when stuff like that was dirt cheap and never really shot a lot of 8mm Mauser. I own two rifles chambered for that cartridge: a K98 and a Yugo M-48. The K98 interests me and I would shoot it more but it is developing a crack in the stock and I don't want to make it worse. The Yugo never really did anything for me. So, the ammo sits there.

It is a hard hitting round that was common 15-20 years ago when large amounts of MAS 36 and 49 rifles and ammo came into the country. The 36s were little used by the French and are still to be found in immaculate condition. The 49/56 semi autos are nifty, tank-like guns that still run well despite their hard usage in the French colonial wars. Beware .308 conversions, though as they need quite a lot of tuning to feed right.
