Out of curiosity, I started looking up every site I knew of that normally had M855 in stock and literally watched the stocks run out this morning.

Whom do you think the primary buyers were this time?

Yes, I saw those earlier and they are very good ones. Everyone should visit those for valuable info updates and actions to take. Last night, I also posted the link provided by Bartholomew Roberts onto Facebook (Egads!, Crikey!, etc. :uhoh:)

I put this in GGD so as not to corrupt those other threads. If the Mods think this shouldn't be a thread, I'm good with it being deleted. No worries.

Panicked AR owners and shooters are my first bet.

In fact when I heard this latest news, my knee jerk reaction was to purchase more M855.

Then I thought about it. While I have some M855 and have fired it, it hasn't been my first choice in AR ammo. So, I let me first reaction cool down.

I think the flippers will be buying as much as they can. Followed by prepper types. I've got some but it doesn't group well in my guns.

That being said, go to the thread Trent posted in activism and follow the instructions to let your voice be heard on this.

I'm glad I bought a .30 Cal ammo can of Federal M855 on sale at PSA last month. No plans to buy more unless the price is right.

All of the above.

I bought a 420rnd case just because a friendly dealer set up a preorder at lower cost than we usually get. Just to have it.

i hate m855.

a) while it's certainly NOT 'armor piercing', it puts little divots on steel targets and pits them up
b) terminal ballistics suck
c) you can get better ammo for less

so no, i'm not rushing to buy any.

I voted 'other'

No one group falls into the category.

Once the ammo stocks are depleted, they're done for good. There is a one month window here for resupply but with the gears of panic now turning at redline RPM they will be whisked straight from the receiving docks straight to Gunbroker, gun shows and Armslist. Forget about seeing them on the shelves except at exceptionally marked up prices.

This is the machine gun registry closure all over again, sort of. This is different from the 2009 panic and the 2013 banic because those were related to legislative actions.

This is an executive action taken by a governmental organ that answers to no one and one that offers no effective recourse.

Write all the letters you want to Mrs. Denise Brown in Washington DC. She's a sweet lady, I'm sure. But make no mistake! The Agency will take careful note of every dissident who writes to protest against their 'proposed' (foregone) rule change.

This country's gone, folks.

Can anybody show me a documented civilian case of this ammo penetrating body armor and illegally taking someone's life?

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Wow, an hour ago Cabela's showed at least 2000 packs of 1200 rounds per pack of the Federal AE M855. I just rechecked a minute ago and it's out of stock. Now they're only showing the 20 rnd boxes as available.

The surest way to get folks to buy something is to tell them there is a limit - doesn't matter if it is ammo of cups of yogurt in the grocery. It's a standard marketing tactic. Fear of shortage will get folks to buy stuff that is crap if they think it will not be available.

I have a lot of SS109 ammo so I don't think I'll be buying any very soon. I like the 62 grain pellets and they are really accurate in a couple of my AR's. I dismantled a SS109 to see hoe it was made. Copper jacket with a stainless cone in the tip with a lead core backing it up. I shot a skunk behind the head with one a 50 yds. The head was held on by a couple of skin flaps.

yep, you may not like obama, but you gotta hand it to him. the guy knows how to sell guns and ammo.

I'm the reverse. I love the stuff for high power practice. Of course, I'm punching holes in paper, but S&B and Prvi SS109 have decent standard deviation and both group 1 MOA in my AR.

1 MOA off the bench = perfectly suitable to practice positional shooting for across the course.

At 30c-35c a round (what it has been going for, prior to this week), it also doesn't break the bank if I get too busy to handload and still want to get enough practice in. Generally fire about 5,000 rounds a year in practice, plus another 1k in matches. Which works out to a $150 a month budget for ammo, if I wanted to shoot only factory SS109.

Guess I'll be handloading more. M193 shoots like crap in my AR, it doesn't like 55 grain, so I'll need to roll my own 62 gr from now on. :)

I can honestly say that at this point, I'm utterly exasperated at these "panics." As a recreational shooter, I have neither the time nor the means to find let alone buy anything when these panicked buyouts occur. I'm still woefully unable to find 22LR without paying the gougers, and that just feeds the insanity.

I could care less about people's panic over M855. I'm still tryin to see any light at the end of the tunnel that used to be 22LR inventory. If I could make the stuff myself i'd be printing money with every box I packed.

If I had the time and place, I would try it out. Maybe you can.

Have you shot any lead core 62 grain FMJ stuff? Fed makes some. I'd guess it will become more common if 855 gets shut down.
