Business as usual. Can't ban the guns? Ban the ammo. One type at a time. Because it has no "sporting purpose".:scrutiny:

Saw this bad boy coming awhile ago. Some desk jockeys at BATFE need a promotion so they ran it up the food chain to one of Obama's hack staff.

Need the commercial market to step up with inexpensive lead 62-66gr 5.56 bullets/ammo.

Have you shot any lead core 62 grain FMJ stuff? Fed makes some. I'd guess it will become more common if 855 gets shut down.

Yeah and at 50+ cents a shot for Federal American Eagle 62 gr, and the lousy performance I got on it in testing (poor standard deviation, poor groupings), they can keep it. I'll roll my own when the time finally gets here. :)

Too bad there's not a 62gr Wolf Gold!

Prvi Partizan 62gr 223 remington is probably the next best bet. ~35c a round or so.

Can't shoot it or any other magnetic ammo at any ranges in SoCal so it doesn't affect me personally. But it still angers me that Dear Leader can just do this and nobody will take him down a notch for infringing on our civil, natural and Constitutional rights repeatedly.

It was already on the scheduled list to ban , they just wanted to implement it in incremental steps .

Very sneaky announcement on a weekend . Its creeping now in the open and its for real.

Looks like Wideners has been hit by the ammo locusts...from their website:

DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING DEMAND FOR M855 AMMUNITION AND COMPONENTS, WE ARE CURRENTLY AT LEAST 7-14 DAYS BEHIND IN SHIPPING. Also, we have a small amount of IMI M855 ammunition inbound (coming this week Feb,18) for $539.00 / 1200 rounds + shipping. We believe this MAY be the last of IMI M855. We could have sold it all to one buyer for more than $539.00, but we are going to sell it to our customers with LIMIT ONE CASE PER CUSTOMER.

Sigh. I'm so sick of panic-induced shortages, but I'm REALLY sick of the government inducing panic by threatening our right to own the ammo we want to own (thereby validating the panic purchasing in the first place).

While I hate to be part of the problem, I just bought some of this ammo myself. I was already planning to buy 1,000 rounds of 5.56mm ammo for a while now, and had been putting the purchase off for nothing other than the fact that I didn't really want to spend the money. This motivated me to get off of the couch and get my supply back to where I wanted it to be (I just bought 62gr this time, instead of the 55gr I usually buy).

I usually shoot 55gr, but that didn't stop me from sending an email to the ATF yesterday. And picking up a couple 150 round boxes of 855 at Dick's today at $.33/rd with coupon.

I read the thread on "Activism" this morning and will be emailing my Senators/Congressman... and probably the BATFE.

Although I believe that the BATFE are least likely to take our comments to heart, and our elected officials are the best recourse.

As far as "scrambling to buy"...no. I read the post, and have no desire to be part of the problem, as so many have been doing with .22LR for the last year or two.

I'd rather not shoot than be part of the problem.

Guys, despite this ammo's lack of great performance, you should still be pissed about it for the simple fact that they banned this ammo overnight. Last time it was Russian stuff! This is a step to erode your rights completely! Just because you don't shoot it or it runs like crap in your guns doesn't mean that your favorite hunting round won't be next. It's time to push back plain and simple. If you don't them please go ahead and give me all of your stuff.

I bought mine because it was cheap and adequate for the task. I prefer other 62 grain cartridges to it.

And, yes, I am irritated that Congress has delegated this overly broad authority to the so-called Fourth Branch of government. The whole "sporting purposes" idea is not supported by the Second Amendment and is a vast stretch through the Commerce Clause.

What gets me is that this agency can, with the stroke of a pen, make the *manufacture* of a heretofor legal product illegal. I can see how they might have been given authority to restrict import, but banning the manufacture of an American made product is effectively making new law.

I usually bought M193 but how much does M855 usually go for? I'm sure the prices on anything left will be greatly inflated now.

It's the flippers for sure. The TEOTWAWKI crowd spent their coffers on the 22lr, now it's back to centerfire...at least it's one specific type of ammunition this time though. It's not like before when anything on the shelf was good enough that it had to be bought immediately. This round of buyers are the flippers who intend to sell it to the crowd who think that because it was adopted by the military that it somehow magically transforms into a superbullet. Idiots feeding idiots.

XM855 is still everywhere locally by me. Okay prices. varying degrees of slightly less than .50 a round for it. I bought 2 boxes, since my AR actually shoots pretty good with it. If someone decides they have to have some at all costs - well. caveat emptor I guess.

"banned" stuff always makes it more valuable for no reason other than being banned.

For me - this has been the nudge I needed to actually start reloading for it.

On a side note and not to get off topic - I thought I had heard that the ss109 had been discontinued and replaced by a new bullet of similar weight? If so this could be one heck of a boon to those manufacturers that have perhaps millions of rounds on hand that are no longer sent to the military.

Are you referring to the SOST round? I don't think the M855 has been replaced just augmented with the SOST for Spec Ops. By the way, wouldn't the "barrier blind" SOST qualify as armor piercing? Maybe only a matter of time before all mil spec 556 is banned.

Panic buyers, the other white meat!

This just proves how stupid some gun owners are! Panic for every issue that deals with firearms.

I think I'll start a panic for QD sling mounts, no sporting purpose and we don't need people doing tactical sling swaps in the woods! All the manufacturers will be sold out by next Friday.

I dont have an AR rifle . Many said its not as good as it should, why? I thought this was the best ammo to get in the 62 gr . Is the accuracy mediocre?

SInce i have the AK 74 i was lucky to get a tin in 2013 for $ 180 plus shipping before they banned it. Right now i see them selling for $219, a $40 increase. The Russian stuff shoots really good , 3 inch grp on rest at 100 yrds

I just bought some this evening at wally world for $.30/rd (the Turkish SS109. It actually shoots pretty well in my AR15). If prices keep climbing I'll just flip it for some 22lr LOL

My guess is its the prepper-crowd and flippers doing the buying right now. If anyone wants some of mine I'll let it go for whatever CTD is selling theirs for :banghead:
