I read this on another forum and it made me curious.

According to the poster he was shopping in a store in Arizona (generally OC friendly state) and encountered a man open carrying. According to the poster he first questioned the guy as to whether or not he was a cop then went a found a manager when the guy essentially told him to mind his own business.

He said he went and found the manager and asked what the store's CCW policy was, the manager told him he couldn't care less and that's where it ended.

I don't open carry but if you do it's not my business and I wouldn't question your choice. I certainly wouldn't call a complete stranger out on it and especially I wouldn't get involved in Arizona.

So if you run into someone open carrying do you involve yourself with them or mind your own business?

I see it quite a lot, I live in a free state. NH. I did it yesterday, over 90 degrees and sweltering hot. As a rule I don't O.C. but I had to take my shirt off or die. If I were to guess I see it here at least weekly, I don't go out much though.

It's no big deal and nobody freaks out. Well the occasional Masshole but we shut them up pretty quickly.

I see the same kind of reaction in forums where some dude sees another dude unintentionally reveal his concealed firearm and he thinks he needs to intervene for some reason and tell the guy who's uncovered as well as everyone on the Internet.

The real question is: was the guy wearing a face mask? If he wasn't, then I'd definitely confront him (and if he was carrying a sub-optimal caliber in a cheap holster, I'd chastise him for that as well).

Actually, when I lived in Arizona, it was good form to compliment someone on a pretty handgun and/or holster. I was always a sucker for a blued Colt SAA in a floral-carved buscadero rig.

Seriously though, if legal, hell no. Even if the guy did look like a nutjob. But I'd get my family outta there pronto.

I generally leave people alone.

Unless I get some kind of vibe that they’re about to do something I’m not going to do anything. If I do them I move away from them and if they keep matching my movements then I get ready for something to pop off. Then I challenge them after I’ve worked my way into a better position.

But bother a complete stranger when they’re doing nothing? No.

Here in southern AZ open carry is pretty common for both men & women (99% of the rest are concealed carry). As a result the crime rate is about zilch... think about it before you panic & wet your socks. I can't recall how long ago the last violent crime was. I generally don't OC but have stopped @ stores & restaurants after a Jeep trip w/ a handgun on & no one even flinched (sure ain't gonna leave it in an open Jeep). Pity you poor folks in the commie run places.

I think if I witnessed someone questioning someone that was open carrying I might question them about how it’s any of their business. I might even tell them where to go to get mental help...or where to go where it might be a lot hotter and little demons prod them in their brainpan with pitchforks and such.

Anyone who would feel they "needed" to say anything to another person, at a place they do not work at, has some serious issues. Sounds like someone who wants to be a Cop and can't get hired as one for easy to see reasons.
Open carry is OK here, seldom see it. When I do I only notice as in looking to see what kind of gun and rig. Kind of like when I see a car I like. Now when I lived in AZ we had no CC law. We never could get one passed. I finally took to just carrying concealed. It was a mis. if found. Since I never went around doing anything to get stopped and searched I was not worried. I got tired of people freaking out when they saw the gun. Always carried a 1911. Have always loved belt slide's. Lost track of the inane comments from others like " Hey the hammer is back on that gun"!. Or "you're going to blow your .........off". Often some store manager would come and ask I leave do to customers who were scared. <sigh>

I can't imagine why anyone would feel compelled to "question" an open carry where it is legal (or illegal, for that matter). Whenever I see someone open carry, I try to get a look at what type of sidearm and holster they have. I see it at least a few times a week. Keeping an eye on them is certainly not a bad idea. Its understandable that some people are taken back at first, if they have never seen it before. Its all relative to where you live, I suppose. You better have a real good reason to confront a stranger and be damn sure you can back up your mouth.

only once, the guy had an extended mag, like a Glock 17 mag in a 26. It was not a glock but had about that much gap. I asked if the mag was falling out. He told me it was extended and that was the whole boring conversation.

I don't see any issue here. Some had questions and they received an answer.

Macayo's manger asked me me if I was an LEO, and when I said no, he told me no firearms allowed.

They never regained my business.

I was well dressed with a vintage 4 inch model 15 with magnum wooden grips in a black law enforcement leather holster. I was born here and have lived in Arizona all my life.

I have no objection to a private property owner (or the agent of the property owner) banning firearms on their premises.

I wouldn't shop there ever again either but their circus their monkeys

Depending on what he or she is carrying, I might say something like ‘nice rig‘, or if I couldn’t ID their piece, I might ask them what they were carrying and likely have a nice conversation and possibly make a new friend. However, to question someone as to why they were carrying, nope.
