Marlin 60 Question

I`ve had mine for 16 years (I think I paid $69 new!) and put about a gazillion rounds through it. Other than having to replace some springs a couple years ago it`s been a darn good gun. It`s still very accurate. Microgroove rifling is just a lot of smaller rifling grooves rather than less larger ones. It works well in this application although I don`t know if it`s any actual advantage. Marcus

That's a pretty good price, about the lowest I've seen new.
You could probably look around in the smaller gun shops for a used one. I've gotten them for as low as $75
they work fine, fun little guns.

the best inexpensive .22 available. I got mine from a friend before he died, and this thing is SCARY accurate. I've played with every type of ammo, and with Wolf Target Match (the best I've found so far, with Winchester t-22 being real close) I can shoot 1/2" 10 shot groups. I mounted a 3-9x Tasco Pronghorn on it (39.99) and I can outshoot my buddies Model 52 Winchester Target (w/ 24x scope) that cost him $2400. He's come close to my groups, but never quite beat me. He completely gave up on his 10/22, as its nowhere near as accurate....

Got my glenfield mod 60 (same mfr as Marlin) for 45 bucks used, keep it clean and it is a fine gun. I would buy a new one for $129.

I paid $119 for one five years ago without a scope. It had a couple other goodies that a factory 60 doesn't have.
I'd have no problem spending $129 for a 60 w/scope.

I paid around 110 at wally world unscopped, depending on the scope I'd say its a good deal.

Another buy it here. I got mine used for $75, $130 for a new one with a scope, in a heartbeat! Wonder why I didn't see this at the store near me?
The Marlin model 60 is the most underrated 22 on the market in my opinion. Everyone seems to want a 10/22 because of all the extra stuff you can buy for them but I'm not into that. The model 60 I have now is only about 6 years old but I have always had one in my gun cabinet for the last 20 plus years. The price is right for the gun you saw but give the scope to some kid for his BB gun. That little 4X15 scope is pure junk. You can put a expensive scope on the gun but it is not necessary. Personally I have discovered the Simmons 22 Mag A/O is a outstanding buy at about $80-$90 if you can find the A/O model. Natchez still has some in stock. I have the Simmons on my Marlin and Savage 22's and have sighted them both in for 50 yards using subsonic loads. Both will shoot half inch or less groups all day long. Couple weeks ago I had some crows in a tree on my place. Range finder logged exactly 80 yards for the tree. Using some old Winchester SS rounds I had and the Model 60 it was two shots and two crows before the tree emptied out. You won't be sorry if you buy the Model 60.

I bought one from Wal-Mart about 10 years ago. It came with the scope to. I never used it. Looked cheap, but I honestly don't know. I put a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x44 scope on it! I bought it for another rifle I never got. So, the Mod 60 has a scope on it that cost almost double what the gun cost! LoL.
But, very accurate gun, I recommend it highly!

only thing 10/22 has over it is modability, the 10/22 can be made a better rifle but it'll take expenditure of dead elder statesmen to get that way.
Model 60 is less expensive and more accurate out of the box, also holds more ammo in the tube then the 10/22 does in the mag.
Only thing I'm not super fond of on the 60 are the sights, they are by no means horrible but are worth replacing.
