Lube Threads....Gotta love 'em!

I love the way lube threads run. Good info.

Since my truck runs 3 gallons of oil per change I always have lots of it around and run all my equipment and guns on it. My rifles and 1911s have been to -25F with Mobil One, Amsoil and Redline motor oils with no ill effects. TW25 works as well (had to toss in a gun lube).

Lately I am a SLIP 2000 fan. Good stuff.

been using 20-50 mobil 1 v twin since my bike uses it and takes a hair less then 4 quarts per oil change. I turn the bottles over and let the excess run into a smal bottle that sits on my work bench. a few ounces are left from every change and the two or three times a year I change the oil in my bike is just enough that I dont need to buy any extra for guns.
I use it for duty guns, hunting rifles and everything else I own that goes Bang... from below 0 degrees in the NY winter to 100 degrees in the south bronx summers, I have never had a problem with using V-Twin Mobil 1 on my guns.

Hi G/S, thanks for the informative post. I used to work on office equipment (old mechanical adding machines, typewriters etc.) and we had a tank of solvent and oil that we used. I'm not sure what was in it, the old guys at the shop just called it 'solvent and oil'...whatever it was, it was terrific at getting into fine mechanisms, cleaning the grease and crud out, and leaving a light lubrication behind.
With that in mind, I'm wondering how Mobil 1 would mix with kerosene? The use would be as a general purpose cleaner/lubricant. What do you think?
Thanks!

Oddball Question RE: Mobil 1 Motor Oil...

Does Mobil 1 motor oil stink?

Most likely I'd be using 10W40, if it matters, but I ask this in all seriousness because someone loaned me some Mobil 1 ATF for purposes of handgun lubrication and words can not even begin express how badly it reeked. It was like being skunked it was so bad. Does Mobil 1 motor oil have that same, nauseating odor? Because if it does there's no way on earth I could even consider using it.

Thanks in advance...

Mine does not. I have no idea what is in ATF that makes it smell so bad.

That's why I installed drain plugs in my transmission pans. Without a drain plug, no matter what you do, transmission fluid is going to fall on your head. . Iit takes time to get than smell out of your hair and your clothing. Yuck.

Okay, so I'm not crazy then and the Mobil 1 ATF really does smell that bad? Good to know I'm not being over-sensitive... I can handle the usual motor oil smell, kinda like it actually, but that Mobil 1 ATF was positively unbearable!!!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Most auto tranny fluid stinks, but i use Mobil 1 20/50 Vtwin and have left bottles sitting open for days in my kitchen and never noticed a smell.
