Without significantly less recoil, I don't see any reason to go with the 20ga. Do you agree?
Honestly, I'd need to put more rounds down range and try to be a bit more "qualitative" with my analysis before I could give a personal opinion on that. There's obviously the shootablilty aspect, the carry aspect (ounces==pounds, pounds==pain,) and the impact performance aspect, that all have to be factored in to the equation.

I promise to report back when I have more to present. :)

I shot a 12ga a couple months ago, but only from the hip. Wasn't about to put in front of my face. Took my 20ga out today for the first time. Put 35 rds of birdshot, 15rds of buckshot through it. No problem putting it in front of my face and aiming it.

One thing I've learned from both personal and others experience, you want your support hand (the one through the loop) to be basically locked straight out. I find it works better if I make it handle the bulk of the recoil, and let my strong hand do the fine tuning of my aim.
I have let to have either recoil enough to where I worry about my pretty face, but I have had the safety lever bite into my hand and draw a good amount of blood. Don't let the strong hand slip! :D

I did the opposite. My grip right hand forced outward, and my left looped hand pulling backward. No face bite, and no safety bite.

In a house, a handgun is more dynamic, faster, and easier to operate one-handed if necessary.
And I can be much more precise in aiming against a bear with a good handgun.
Buckshot has its own limitations there. One is speed, one is accuracy.

The Shockwave's more toy than defensive shield, as a practical matter. :)

All handguns are relatively poor 'stoppers', regardless of caliber or bullet used. If I have to shoot in defense of myself or loved ones, I want to end the fight as quickly and w/as few rds as possible to limit the BG's ability to inflict serious/lethal damage before he's neutralized.
A decent shotgun load will always be far more effective at ending a fight quickly than any handgun load. "Speed and accuracy" are moot points if they don't stop the threat before the BG inflicts serious/lethal damage.

Anyone out there buy one of these? Thinking of picking one up.....any thoughts on this little shotgun that's is not considered a shotgun by BATF? Wish they made it in 20 gauge also.

I have seen either Mossberg Shockwave or Remington 870 in 20ga. Pistol grip only shotguns are useless.
