I bought a brand new Rossi 2" snub nose in .357 mag which is made by Taurus a few weeks ago and it was messed up from the day I received it. The extractor rod is bent which causes the cylinder to bind up and the entire gun is full of metal shavings. Fed Ex picked it up yesterday and as soon as I get it back I'm selling it and getting a Ruger LCR like I should have in the first place. This is my first and last experience with Taurus I've heard the stories and well now I know they are not just picky people flaming Taurus they really are just a mediocre company at best at least in my opinion. Something like that should never make it through quality control it's just ridiculous and inexcusable. Then after fed ex said they delivered it to the repair center I call them up and they tell me it's going to be 6 to 8 weeks till they can even look at it!!! [Unsuitable language redacted.]

First impressions are pretty important to me and well I'll never even think twice about getting one of their products now. I mean I would've just sucked it up and forgot about it because every company that mass produces anything has issues but the 8 weeks until they can even look at it just set me over the edge that's just not acceptable. All that says to me is they need to fire their quality control department and trace down the source of the shoddy work or they need to hire more techs to repair the pieces of garbage they produce. This is just all my opinion and when I ask who I need to talk to about making a complaint she says that she can transfer me to her managers voice mail but he's busy and might not be able to get back to me and there's no where on their website to even email in a complaint it's just kind of ridiculous lol.

^^^^i thought "taurus" CS was supposed to be top notch. 8 weeks??? wow. do they need more tech? or they are swamp with all the sent back guns. LOL thanks for the info.

Where did you get that idea? The internet is fraught with complaints
about their customer service.
do they need more tech?
That would raise their prices, killing their company.
If their handguns cost as much as the ones they copy, they would not be in business.
or they are swamp with all the sent back guns.
I think you may have it right there.

I bought a Taurus revolver about three years ago on the advice of a friend. While it's generally against my nature to sell a firearm, I was most happy to sell my friend that same Taurus -- quickly and without hesitation. All handguns are not alike, and one size does not fit all. I also understand that lots of folks like the Taurus line; I am not among them. Happy to say that I've never been tempted bu a Rossi. I do own a number of quality Rugers, however. To each his own.

Maybe, just maybe you'll get it back by Labor Day.

I've been the Taurus route. There's no pride of ownership with them even if you do get a good one. You just still have a Taurus.

Get a Ruger or S&W and be proud of it for the rest of your life.

Its to bad also because my Rossi had a great DA trigger ..I was in shock when I tried it the first time ....I thought wow.....this is close to a Colt or Smith at a fraction of the cost....then the firing pin started breaking.

I'm sorry to hear you Taurus woes. I do try to tell people of my Taurus experiences so that they can make an informed purchase.

Then after fed ex said they delivered it to the repair center I call them up and they tell me it's going to be 6 to 8 weeks till they can even look at it!!! [Unsuitable language redacted.]

I've sent two firearms back to Taurus for service... A model 66 and more recently a Taurus/Braztech rifle. In each case, the turnaround time for repair was excessive. I would also say that Taurus customer service will say anything just to get you off the phone. Be prepared for the phrase, "We'll call you back", but don't believe those words... They never will.

My Model 66 took almost exactly 6 months to be returned to me. The rifle took 4 months and it was replace with a different model than the one I sent in for repair.

Good luck with your Taurus experience and I hope yours goes better than mine.

I prefer to buy USED handguns. The bugs have been hopefully worked out before I get it. Used ones are a little cheaper too as a rule. Where I live there are virtually no gunsmiths. I have to rely on the factory. Smith & Wesson are my preferred choice for handguns. Their service dept is reasonably competent and complete their work in a timely manner.
I have personally not owned a Taurus firearm. Most of their products appear to me to be similar to other brands. Their revolvers tend to resemble S&W's. Autos look like Beretta or Colt. I just buy a used one those brands.

I have a Taurus .32 Mag. Neat little gun that shoots pretty well. It's no Colt or Smith though. Fun little range gun. I would like a 441, cause it's a .44 Spl, and S&W 24's are pricey. Some day.

I used to have a Taurus and a Ruger SP-101. Needless to say ill never buy another non-S&W revolver again, unless I can find a Python for a halfway reasonable price. I guess its the price I pay for buying a 19-5, then having a trigger job done and getting used to an action as smooth as glass.

The Taurus was a good shooter, but the action never smoothed out.
I could never get used to the flat Ruger style hammer, and compared to the S&Ws it was downright uncomfortable. I learned my lesson and the S&W fits me better.

*disclaimer* Rugers are nice guns, just not for me.

I bet the Ruger sp101 went boom everytime and you never had to send it in for service though did you haha. My dad has that revolver and he loves it it's his carry gun actually.

I have a 1999 Rossi 352. It is a fantastic revolver. Slick as glass. I have a 1987 Taurus 66. The fit and finish is second to none. Again, slick as glass.

Back in March, I really wanted a small frame, three inch .357, so I bought a Taurus 605. It wasn't so slick and it shot way left. Like 3.5 inches left at 7 yards. I sent it back and Taurus returned it, six weeks and one day later. It now shoots where pointed. I've ordered a Wolff spring kit and a set of Hogues for it. Hopefully it will then be slick as glass.

Two out of three good experiences isn't good enough for me. Why shouldn't I expect a new firearm to perform perfectly? I didn't pay with counterfeit money. The dealer didn't have to wait six weeks for my money to be any good. I found that Taurus customer service reps to be very polite. They do what they promised. But, I say that the best customer service is good quality control, at the head of the stream. I totally agree with the OP. Why did his revolver ever get out of production, with a Taurus stamp of approval?

My experiences with Rossi have been good. My Rossi will shoot as well or better than my Smith and Wesson. Better trigger, better grips, better price.

You should have had the foresight to inspect the gun before throwing down your hard earned money. Also, Interarms Rossi's were built better than the Braztech stuff they are selling now.

I have owned two - a titanium .38 special model 85 and a titanium model 450 in .45 Colt. The .38 was no good and I immediately traded it in on a S&W J Frame (great gun) and still have the 450 as it has been a good gun and how many .45 Colt +P rated snub nose guns are out there that weigh 19 ounces - none - I'm keeping the 450. I don't think I would buy another Taurus unless they improve their QC. It seems to be around 50/50.

So you bought an obviously broken gun and are pissed about it???? A bent extractor rod that causes binding would be very evident with any hands on exposure. I'm confused why you would purchase any firearm without first looking it over. Even online sales typically have a trial period.

And when Taurus says six to eight weeks they mean it. Had mine back in 6 weeks damn near to the day.

I recently traded this:

I am happy to own the Clinton & Wesson. The Taurus was actually
a great shooter with a great DA pull and a tight lockup but, well, it's
a Taurus...

Taurus is either hit or miss

Yep, you either hit the gun with a hammer in anger or miss what you're shooting at because of a cylinder that doesn't index properly!

Didn't you get to check out the gun before you got it?

If you bought it from the store, check it out before doing the paperwork. Once the paperwork goes in and your money goes out, it's a done deal.

Taurus revolvers leave me cold. You'll love your Ruger or S&W, but leave the Tauruses to people who don't mind using the money they saved to send it back and forth to and from the factory.

I have several Rossi revolvers I love, but they were made before the Taurus folks bought the company.

My experiences with Taurus have been nothing but positive. Lockup, fit and finish, and reliability is 100%. They get hated on a lot, but the three examples I have been exposed to are excellent quality. I think there are genuine QC issues at Taurus from time to time, but I also think the internet raving is also a whole lot of piling on. Also, people will attack lower cost guns for not working, while praising a more respected manufacturer for dealing with their "minor" issue quickly. As with anything on the internet, YMMV.
