I really enjoy these posts and learn a lot, but I have a couple of questions and an observation.
Why do a couple of people only post to tell people how ignorant and stupid they are for bad spelling and punctuation. I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress and the medication causes memory problems. I can see when a word is not right but can't always get it right. I'm a College Grad with Engineering Degree and already feel bad about these problems without the cr-p from the peanut gallery.
Speaking of memory problems I've just brain farted and forgot my observation but I really enjoy reading and interacting with like minded people with some real world experience and some wanting advice from people with real world experience.
I did 28 years in the military, retired as the senior man in my rate in the Navy. 2 wars, 1 police action, shot twice, stabbed once, blown up once. 1 Bronze Star, 3 Purple Hearts and all that been there stuff. Was a very satisfying career and I'd do it again tomorrow.

Maybe they're unemployed English teachers. (I can say that because I'm one, though I don't harangue strangers for their grammatical skills -- I prefer getting paid for that, as opposed to doing it for free :).)*

Glad you enjoyed your Navy career, despite the abuses wrought upon you during such service, and that there are those such as you who choose to serve. (I wonder how many grammatical haranguers have, hmm...) Welcome to the board, from a fellow New Guy.

By the way, this'll probably get shut down for not being Strategical or Tactical enough.

So, when syntactically tackled by the tactically tactless, employ that most strategic of stratagems: Ignore them.

*Yes, I know that the ending bit up there is “bad grammar,” but even colloquialisms deserve a home.

When someone else's argument is breaking down, they always criticize grammar and spelling.

...because criticizing race and religion are forbidden.

(just kidding).

Thank you for your service, navret.

navyretired1,

We don't get an overwhelming amount of that here IMHO, most of the time, and most of what does show up (I hope) gets quietly sent to the bit bucket by yours truly. That means those posts are deleted, and similar ones will continue to be. I'd rather the discussion get advanced to the benefit of all than get all tangled up with grammar and spelling nazis. I will sometimes fix an egregious error or typo that shows up here, and almost never say anything about it save the occasional note to explain why I edited a post.

Why do some people harp on grammar and spelling in such a painful fashion? I suppose they do it because this is the Internet, and almost no one knows anyone else face to face. It's all just a bunch of words. I don't know how better to explain it.

I'd rather we focus on clear communication with each other here (even though I have my own failings in that regard from time to time) and not worry so much about how we say it, but rather be more concerned about what we say.

I'd rather S&T participants provide support and assistance for one another, rather than trying to put each other down.

Unfortunately I don't have a magic wand. All I have is a few extra buttons on my screen, an infraction paddle, and a ban stick. And a few hours a day to try and ride herd on this place. Thank goodness the rest of the staff swings by sometimes too, if only to watch the fireworks.

Thanks for your observations. I'd rather we didn't get started running navel-gazing threads in S&T if we can help it, there's too much to do in learning the lessons of the street to get too wrapped up examining ourselves minutely in the process. I'd rather discussions about how things are done here take place by PM, unless there's a good reason that a public discussion would shed more light than heat on the situation.

Thanks,

lpl
