well ... i don't evan know wnhat "dope" eans

DOPE is an acronym meaning Data On Previous Engagements but I don't know when it became a verb ... I use it as a noun. DATA means anything and everything that affects your bullet's path and ultimately where it impacts the target. It's not just wind.

Don't waste your money on a Barska when

you can get a Whitetail classic, 6.6-20x50 wide angle for 100.00. I just put on this 6.8 and it shoots great. I won't change it unless it quits holding zero. Which I doubt. Great bargain right now.

Where can you get the Savage 10FP with Choate "Tactical" stock. Savage's web site only seems to show the Chaote Folding at this point. Does anyone still sell the 10FP with the Chaote tactical?

mlomlo.....

As far as I know, only Cabela's is selling the 10FCP with the Choate tactical stock. That's where I bought mine . It took alot of handloads before finding the right one, the most stubborn rifle I have had to get to shoot to date.

Here's mine, it's the rifle in the middle. I did cut the the barrel back to 20 inches, added a Badger Thruster and painted it. In reality, the Choate tacical A5 style stock is quite nice for the price. I added weight to this one and it's just under 19 lbs.

What were you trying to accomplish with your hand loads / what was your goal for your hand loads?

I've had really really good results with the Federal 168gr Sierra Match in my 10FCP. 0.5 MOA or less, if I do my part, at 100 yards.

Bob....Basically a load that shoots good day in and day out, one that is consistant in performance in all conditions. I wont use a single cherry picked group and call it good and will shoot and refine a load until I get repeatable accuracy. Not going in detail but this Savage took alot and wasnt easy.

On the other hand the FN and Remington pictured above came out of the box shooting and will 99 percent of the time out shoot the 10FCP out to 600 yds.

Try shooting some 5 shot groups back to back on the same target face with your favorite load and see what it does.

Here is what I came up with the 10FCP and feel that it's a 1moa rilfe at best.

i just bought one

hey guys, i just bought the savage with choate stock from cabelas also, and i was wondering if somebody could tell me how to keep the bipod adapter in place... i can slide it in the channel, but there is no way to keep it from sliding back out...aliitle help please...

Should be a thumb screw, or a "T" shaped bolt to tighten it down. I didn't care for the way mine rocked, and installed a swivel stud with a washer under it so it sets out of the rail a ways, so you can hook on to it.

Welcome to THR:)

VM1015 Congrats! For the money they are great rifles. Plus if you want to change the bbl you can do it yourself!

The bipod adapter will only stay put if you've installed and tightened down a bipod. Otherwise wrapping with some tape could create a friction fit and keep it where it belongs. I'm thinking about tapping mine and installing a set screw too.

While my rifle doesn't seem too picky with ammo I did find out a few things at the range last weekend with it.

First the free recoil method doesn't work my rifle shot much better groups when the buttpad held to my shoulder with some pressure ( I was shooting from a bipod and rear sandbag ).

It didn't like starting loads and preferred the full velocity loads with the bullets I was shooting.

It shoots Factory Federal 150gr softpoints from Wal-Mart into very little groups at 100yrds. I normally shoot this up and reload the brass but found it shoots consistantly in all my rifles. I was getting all the bullets touching in nice little groups with this stuff! I haven't tried FGGM for LR work but if this is any indication!

Gotcha. That makes sense.

I was just curious if you were trying to create something special.

So far I've just been using the Federal Match 168gr Sierra bullet rounds. Haven't shot a lot of it yet, but the groups I've gotten have been sub-0.5 MOA @ 100 yards (first time to the range with the 10 FCP). But they weren't as good as your groups mind you. You managed even tighter sub-0.5 MOA groupings than I did.

I'm slowly starting to reload, so I'll have to try tuning some rounds.

What did you come up with for your rounds?

thanks for the warm welcome guys... just got my millet trs-1in the mail, now im just waiting on my burris bases and burris rings...still havent decided what to shoot though...ill be doing more hunting with this rifle than anything so i want an accurate bullet that will still cause some pretty good damage... any suggestions?

I also bought one on impulse at Cabela's. I threw on a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 with the target turrets. I can easily get a consistent .5 MOA at 200 yards. I have gotten as good as .25 MOA. (albeit not often) I think this rifle has a wonderful feel and fits me very well.

Enjoy!
