New Sig P365 Failure

Good post. I know we all think we're capable of replacing parts in even the most basic handgun platforms ... but really, not all of us are. We don't know what we don't know. I have zero problem sending a gun back to the factory to get it (presumably) done right.

As far as SIG goes -- I've got several older West German and German classic P-series pistols, but I also own several newer models (P-238, P-938, P-225-A1, P-226/229 Legions) produced in the past two or three years, and as far as I'm concerned, they're easily the equal of any early SIG that I own. I would strongly disagree that my Legions, for example, are inferior to my German-made SIGs.

I get all of the bad feelings and worries about the P365 and SIG in general. I am personally a SIG fan and have several beautiful, reliable awesome SIG guns that I would never get rid of.

Missing a spring is a major screw up, granted. However, I am sure this is an isolated issue and it is not like we are seeing reports of thousands of guns going out with that spring. I am not condoning the poor QC, that should have been caught, and it really sucks that this happened, but...

These types of things happen anytime human involvement is used. It can happen to any manufacturer, at any time. Should have been caught, but again, human involvement...

Sucks, but we are glad that you caught it in time and that no one was hurt.

The firing pin issue that we have read about needs to be addressed if real, and that is a different issue altogether.

Exactly the way many feel about Glock Fan Boys.

I'm a pretty big fan of Ruger firearms, but when they have an issue or a recall people online say, "Typical Ruger POS gun". If Sig has an issue or recall the Sig fanboy says, "Sig is just trying something cutting edge and they'll make it right".

It certainly is a legitimate concern. Glad you found the problem which seems to have a simple fix. The problem is that each reporting of this type gives an inflated and unrealistic negative few which may not be warranted. I myself, am a good example. I complained about my 365 not locking back - then after adjusting my grip realized that the gun was not at fault. It behooves us to some research and investigation before we assault the good name of any gun manufacturer. Not saying you were wrong. Just a word to share.

Well, as an admitted SIG fanboy, I will speak for the rest of us by saying we are EXTRA shocked and saddened by how far the brand has fallen by trying to make mediocre, mass-market guns to compete in every category and price point, rather than focusing on what they did best, premium guns with the quality to back up the cost. I had zero interest in any of the US-engineered SIGs and the P365 does nothing to change that.

Funny you bring that up. The Sig 320 and 365 bashing going on now, reminds me so well of the same when Ruger came out with the Ruger American. Nice gun that got the heck bashed out of it. What a shame.
That said, I can understand what Nightlord40 k means by the recent mass market guns. I feel the same way with Ruger's latest entry's. Not the tank builds of the past.

I own a RAP in 45 and it is a good shooting gun. I have had no issue with bashing of knuckles.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the SIG CEO is the same guy who messed up Kimber right? If so, can't say I'm surprised with what's been going on at SIG.

Well, I purchased it new 2 days ago and just had my first chance to fire it. It failed. About 50rds in, the rear frame pin, the pin that hold all the innards in place, walked out. I pressed it back in and every 20 or so rounds fired, it walks back out again. 100rds, mix of Tula, Federal bulk, Winchester bulk, Winchester Silvertips and Federal 9bple all functioned 100%. However, the gun is useless in its current state. Looks like I'm gonna have to ship it back to Sig Monday. I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Sig q/c has been abysmal of late. Pics for reference. There is absolutely nothing inside the pin hole that holds the pin in place, even though the pin appears to be grooved for some type of keeper.

what junk ! sad..

I have no interest in the Sig, Do not own one, and not interested in the 360 or 365. But not for any of the first run problems I have seen posted on this thread. Sad that it has morphed into a Sig Bashers thread more than anything else. Plenty of nice Micro 9mm's to choose from. Maybe time to move on and post about a new thread of the gun you like.

And in that vein.

I now own a Glock 43

Kimber Micro

Kimber Solo

XDS .9mm & .45 acp

Kahr PM40

Sig P365 [ another in the mail ].

So, what "fan boy" can I claim ?.

It will be interesting to see how Sig resolves it and how many weeks it takes them to install a 15 second spring. If Sig takes care of me in a timely manner, resolves the issue and the pistol holds up to a pampered life of occasional plinking/pocket carry, I am fully prepared to offer the gun a 8.5/10. Might get bumped up to a 9.5/10 if they include some swag/free mag. I dont want to demonize the company, I just want to honestly point out my personal experience and opinion.

This. ^^^^ People make mistakes. A test fire or two wouldn't necessarily show a problem like this. Multiple cases of failed firing pins after relatively low round counts is a different issue entirely and exposes a much deeper problem.

I shipped a gun to Sig for repair on June 4. I have been notified it will be back in my hands June 15. Hows that for service?
