I been buying several .22's lately mainly so I can still go shoot at the range and afford it. I recently bought a 10/22 target put a Mueller APV and this is a tackdriver with Federal Automatch....it's a keeper.

I built a CMMG M4LE 22 on a CMMG lower with a nice 1-4x24 and this gun is probably the funnest of all and functions 100% with federal bulk and winchester bulk. It is very accurate and is definitely a keeper.

Also got a Ruger MKIII..removed the mag disconnect...and is also a tack driver with both federal bulk and winchester bulk...cheap to shoot and has been 100% reliable...it's a keeper.

Also bought a LCR 22 and man this thing was very accurate at 7yds and 15yds...but most of all very fun to shoot...this will replace alot of practice time to my jframe...its also a keeper.

Bought a GSG 1911-22 had no issues FTF or any malfunctions of any kind, but this gun could not group for nothing...and I was only testing it at 7yds...Federal automatch, bulk federal, winchester bulk...I was so disappointed. The sights are extremely cheap and I tried to adjust them every which way but this gun just stunk...so i just sold it for a loss and would never recommend it to anybody.

I purchased the SR22 this morning and haven't been able to take it out yet. It is the one that just shows the "SR22" on the slide not "SR22 PISTOL"...so I'm guessing its the newer manufactured one. I broke it down and it was very simple to do. Barrel was tight in place appearing to be properly torqued unlike the 1st ones they sent out. So far I like this its very sturdy, well built, and single action pull is not bad at all.

For those who have one of these what ammo do you prefer...groups best...functions the best. Any input appreciated.

sorry for the rant....but 22's have been fun lately...

I've run about six different brands through mine, the best so far (by a small margin) is Federal AutoMatch. Very possible that this ran best for me because it's a personal favorite. The difference between all of them was was pretty minimal, and everything I fed it functioned perfectly.

Regular old Federal Lightening 550 bulk pack works 2.0" at 25 yards in my SR22, best so far and 1/2" better than Auto Match. The Auto Match only improved my Rossi M511 revolver, which shoots 1" at 25 with it, 2" with the Lightening. In all my other guns, the Auto Match showed either no improvement or shot worse. I'll keep it around for the Rossi.

I've tried a bunch of ammo, none tops Lightening in the SR22. I just found an old box of RWS target when I was packing some stuff today. I need to try that in the gun, but the stuff is kinda expensive for ventilating cans. I'll stick with the bulk pack Federal for now. It's a good plinkin' round and it's head shot accurate for sitting rabbits and such out to past 20 yards. I've got the gun sighted in for it.

I've got about 1200 rounds through mine flawless. The bulk pack does give an occasional misfire. I think I've had one in the SR22 so far, second whack set it off. It's not the best primed ammo out there. If I had to use this thing for defense, parish the thought, I'd go with CCI mini mag as it's about 2.5" 25 yards accurate and much better primed stuff.

The SR22 is pretty reliable ignition, though it did have that one misfire with Federal. My Mk 2 has more instances of misfire with Federal probably 2 or 3 per 550 box. My Rossi NEVER misfires with the stuff. It's got a big, round firing pin. I think that's the secret.

Just some observations. Hope they help. I love my rimfires, too. :D

I took my Neos out today and put about 100 rounds through it. Flawless. Good times.

I've only used Remington Golden Bullets in it so I can't comment on other brands, but RGB is my cheap, available-everywhere, go-to ammo.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions...I will definitely put them to use...I am glad to hear about how accurate this gun can be...I shoot at 3" shoot and see targets and I know that if I can't put most of my shots at minimum 15yds on it the gun is not accurate enough to keep around.

Now I am beginning a new search for another 22. What other guns would ya'll recommend that ya'll like over others in your collection...or would be a fun addition to mine.

Cant answer your question, i just came in for the 22 love :)
/lcr 22 and buckmark

Best .22LR ammo in terms of reliability and accuracy, at least in all of my guns, is Wolf Match Target and CCI MiniMags. In bulk pack ammo, given the occasional dud, is Federal Auto Match, followed next by Federal Champion. Winchester ammo is okay; reliability is so-so and I mainly use it for plinkin without too much concern for accuracy. Never had any kind of success with any Remington rimfire ammo.

10/22 love

For some real fun, send the barrel and bolt of that 10/22 to CPC---Connecticut Precision Chambering---for a rework, and do a trigger job while you're waiting. The improvement to the rifle will astound you.

Agreed. Add CCI Blazer to your list and we could be best friends. Just bought 4 boxes of 550 round bulk from Dunham's for 15 bucks a box with an online coupon.

I just bought a M&P22 and love it. Feels like a full size pistol with hardly any recoil. It is very simple to break down and clean. Very fun and accurate!

Since you have a Mk3, the Buckmark would be my suggestion. I intend to get one next, myself. Academy sells 'em for under 300 bucks. I have a Mk2, the danged thing's so accurate, I have a scope on it and have no intention of removing it. Thing is 1" at 50 yards accurate, great for a squirrel gun, outshoots its 10-22 sibling. :D I'll keep the Buckmark open sighted. I also have a Contender with a 10" .22 match barrel as one of its options. It's also scoped and is even more accurate than the Mk2. I've shot a lot of squirrel with that one.

I've run dozens of different brands of ammo through mine with little to no problems. Sometimes with standard velocity stuff the slide won't cycle far enough back to pick up the next round in the mag so I usually stick with high velocity.

I usually shoot mine from 15 yards and in. At those distances I really don't notice any difference in "accuracy". Maybe if I bench rested it or put it in a vise I would but just shooting off hand by far the biggest variable in accuracy is me, not the gun or the ammo.

I reload, but still have been shooting a lot of .22LR lately. I had two of my Ruger MK II's, my CZ Kadet, and even my Benelli MP95E out over the weekend. Great fun.

.22 Pistols new... CZ Kadet either the dedicated gun or the conversion kit for the cz 75b (also fits other cz's).

.22 Pistol used... Hi Standard (only those made in Ct.) I have two. both are excellent guns. The trigger will spoil you. Many models and price ranges to choose from. This is an heirloom quality firearm, when they were made in the 50,60's they were the standard for target competition. Expect to pay $350-$750 depending on model and condition. Don't shoot anything but standard velocity ammo in them.

Also in this category is the Smith & Wesson 41.

I'm retired and have the time and money to shoot anything I want. I love my .22's the most.

.22 LR Ammo... I'm a .22 ammo nut case. I have 20 different brands and types of . 22 ammo in the ammo locker. I'm constantly testing and re-testing. If forced to choose it would be Wolf Match Target and SK Standard + essentially the same ammo, different box. I have to mail order all my ammo, because I'm in the sticks. I generally wait for sales to offset some of the shipping cost and buy in bulk. It's nice that ammo doesn't go bad (fast). The Wolf and SK are target ammo velocity, about 1060fps velocity. Shooting at reactive targets I go to Blazer.

My SR22 loves high-velocity and "hyper" velocity rounds, but the standard stuff (most notably Remington Thunderbolt) always seems to fail on the second round through each mag. Winchester Wildcat doesn't play nice either, but the Winchester 333- and 555-round box variety works just fine.

My grandfather's Hi Standard model HB pistol has been shot like crazy with both standard and high velocity ammo with no ill results. Granted I'm not versed in whether or not that model is made in Ct. or not, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if it came around for $250 in good condition.

My SR22 fires but does not cycle Winchester PERIOD, which is okay cuz lately Olin ammo is junk and dirty to shoot, and had similar issues with Remington Thunderbolt. So, I moved on.

Its reliable, and I'm using that word in it's definitive form, with CCI Mini Mags, and an absolute .22 monster with Stingers. Many are shooting Fed Bulk, I however do not hate my gun to shoot anymore dirty junk through it. The mini mags are $6.97 for 100, roughly 45% of the cost of the cheapest 9mm. I will be using these predominately, Stingers as defense ammo.

These SR22s are accurate!

By all means, a Buckmark. Mine started out as a your average, garden variety Buckmark, but one year when my son was overseas, he wanted to WOW me with a birthday present

I added the Fastfire, but that Tactical Solutions barrel is nice and light, this one has great balance, and very accurate. Easily my "most fun" gun

Count me in among those who have recently "rediscovered" the .22LR fun factor, especially after modifying my 26+-year old 10/22 Ruger. The SR-22 pistol is one I'm eyeing for possible purchase soon, but I did recently acquire a PT-22 Taurus I have not yet gotten to shoot. It joins the 10/22 Ruger/Tapco rifle, a Phoenix HP22A (great, cheap shooter!), my Ruger Mk-II, and a Jennings J-22 (those last two among my first handguns, purchased in 1987.)
Come back when your shoot your new Ruger and tell us how it is...
