New York hunters

I haven't in years, caught some over 5 feet. If I had a smoker set up I would fish more for them. There's usually a bunch of Asians and Russians so it can be a pain. I do shad fish in the spring, didn't make it out last year tho. I like trout and crappie fishing to, got 2+ pound crappie in the lake behind my house.
I used to ride my motorcycle on a curvy road, Rt. 97, above the Delaware, near Hawk's Nest, not far from Port Jervis.

Could see the shad in the river when they were running from there, high above it. Beautiful area.

OP: Good luck!

Lol I live a few miles down the road from hawks nest, people really like it up there and every few years they use it for a movie. The road I'm one they shot a 80s Chrysler kcar commercial which is funny to me.

I was out for the past 3 days and just got home today. I rented a little cabin down there. I saw more deer but I wasn't able to get a shot off. I need to go down to Ithaca in the summer and kind of explore some of these areas if we're allowed to so I can get a better sense of where to hunt. It's difficult trying to figure out where to hunt when you've never been there before. I picked the area they said had the highest concentration of deer and I highly believe that with all the deer poop and tracks that I saw but I also saw a lot of human activity there too so I think it probably gets pretty heavily hunted.

Sorry you didn't get a shot, knowing that they're there us half yhe battle. Getting in the area pre hunt would increase your odds of scoring a nice deer, if yhe area isn't posted except for late season hunting then there shouldn't be an issue for you to do some scouting, otherwise contact them and ask if going in preseason is acceptable.

Human activity may not be a bad thing, if the contact is all year long, just during hunting season would be more of an issue making them wary, even so that could work in your favor.

True enough!

I was going to go back on Monday but it looks like they're getting a snow storm down there.

On another note, I got some power tools for the holidays, since I'm trying to stick with one brand I'm wondering if anyone needs a drill or circular saw. Free to you fellow NYers if you need them. A porter cable drill with a 20v maz battery and a b+d circular saw, it takes 20v batteries but they are not included.

Nice pif, had to r&r mine this past summer, cause they grew legs and walked away. I bought ryobi for price, quality and quantity, would have preferred Dewalt but too expensive to replace it all.

Picked my new to me cva hunterbolt 60 cal inline and 100 win 209 primers. Thermometer says 3* so no range trip, plus I have yo find some projectiles. Oaid 229.90 plus 8.00 for primers, little high on primers but normal for the times. Fit to stock looks good small even gap from reciever through forend.

I used to shoot 285 gr Buffalo bullets in my flintlock, hollow base hollow point. Took one doe at 109 yds massive damage, first time I ever heard the sound of impact.

Could order some Sabots they make for 44 and 45 cal bullets then you can shoot cheap lead bullets or jackdted.

Iirc there are different sabot diameters, not just internal for precise fit, haven't researched in a while since I sold my 10 ml. Was thinking of trying power belts, if i can find them, usually can be bought anywhere but haven't seen any on shelves in a while.

Which mold do you have, barrel says it has a 1:32 twist so likely to stabilize heavier conical best. Didn't get a Manuel, but from several others I've owned 50 to 70 gr powder charge should work well. Might go as high as 100 gr though depending on the projectile.

Think it was a maxi ball mold just can't remember if I have it or my dad or are other buddy has it, I know I've got a 58 maxi mold. There's a few molds I've just have put away to keep safe and can't remember lol. You can get 44 or 45 sabots just depends what bullets you have or like. Wal-Mart may have some power belts, think mine did when in last.

I checked Norwich Walmart none duck's 4 blocks from me either. The gun shop that I hot it st was out too mayhoods didn't have any the kids time I stopped in. Just gave to keep looking might find online, at mid south sportsmans warehouse or bass pro.

Nice purchase, there is a gun shop on the way to work that is decent size and probably over 50% of merchandise is black powder.

Greene's Gun Shop 360-675-3421.
If you call them to see if they have what you are looking for I can pick it up and mail it out there for you.

Went to range today, wasn't Rhee long but did verify that my m11 243 wasn't hurt in the fall during deer season. Shot 3 rounds at 100 yds into an inch and one shot at 300 meters on a 3 in steel plate. Hit the plate with my final round only shot 4 total.with that rifle, shot 5 rounds at 100 with my m11 in 223, a mid range charge if blc2 under 62gr hornandy hpbt. 2 rounds into one hole a 3rd within a half inch, but the final 2 opened group yo 1.125 in.

Overall a good range trip in adverse conditions 21* temp with an 11 o'clock wind at approx 10 mph.

He needs to get what ever is wrong fixed. If not it will start to off set other issues.

With the warmer temperatures it would be more comfortable going out small game hunting.

I took Mason out shooting today for three hours.
He got to shoot the 357mag Ruger GP100, the 223 AR15 and the 22lr Ruger Single-six.

I picked up about fifty pounds of old shotgun hulls.
Looking forward to getting him out next weekend if it doesn't rain on Sunday.
