New York hunters

Went to the range today for a few hours, wish I had more time I like going by myself so I'm not rushed. Just shot at like 30 yards, did not feel like caring the target stand out farther since the dolly wasn't there. Brought my old Rossi 62a to just mess with, shot maybe 75 rounds about 5-6 mag tubes and some slamfiring lol. Other was that old marlin 25 with the weaver b6 scope I put together, had some problems at first it was hitting way low but I didn't know that at first. They were all vertical like 18" high I think somehow they were hitting the ground and bouncing , that target stand was a low one. I adjusted like two full turns up then hit like 4" low on the paper then got it sighted in. Shot like 7 different loads all were around 1 /2" if I did my part. Happy the mini mags and the velositors shot good, some hollow points it didn't feed well some times I may just have to tune the mag latch some.

Last was that 3006 pre 64 model 70 winchester barreled action I got this winter. I just put it in my m70 270 stock and used its bottom metal and follower for now, hope to find a stock one day I can afford. My try modding a long action push feed m70 stock, there cheap enough to try one. The barrel has a bad pitting spot in the middle and don't really plan on keeping the barrel tho prices are pretty high for a new barrel now. Just had the sights, didn't tell like putting a scope on just to pull it off again. I couldn't get a good sight picture, think it's easier a 100 then 25. Shots hit 3" left and perfect elevation. Just need to drift the rear sight some. Not very good group of like 9 rounds were 2-3" but I know it's because I couldn't get a good consistent picture. But the main reason for shooting it I just wanted to test the gun out before putting money into it. One day I'll pull the barrel hope that goes well I think I need to make a action wrench.

I'm happy with the marlin it should make a nice squirrel gun this fall and it's sighted in for them woodchucks in the yard. Very happy how clear that old weaver 3/4" tube scope came out, should be a good power for head shoots up in the trees. Gun didn't like the 60grain agilias, had a few left and figured try some but they tumble. Only had two guns shot them well a 10-22 I built years ago and my old rem model 33 it must have a faster twist the 1-16" . Gun didn't like cb longs .uch, they were 3" low as expected but we're kinda random into 1.5" group, stupid quiet tho.

Did you go to the Oneonta gun range?
It's nice going by yourself so you can do things at your own pace.
Ya up at the gun club, one guy on the forum here lives in Florida but hunts ny still turns out he has a deer camp like 10 miles from are gun club. He cool to get with him some year I've always wanted to do the whole deer camp thing.

Did you check to see if the m 70 fouled in the g e pitting or not?
I took a quick look after shooting but didn't seem much I'll check better tomorrow when I get home. The pitting spot looked unchanged. I shout maybe 15 rounds in that some quick reloads and like 7 factory loads I had. Depends on what I can get for a stock of i can find a decent stock I'll get a another 06 barrel there $50to$110 ish from the m70 site to get a better bore. Chancing the headspace will be good tho.

Ed and Mel rented a bare bones hunting cabin over in Afton on Lingee Road for two weeks last hunting season. Right in the middle of thousands of acres of state land. It runs between Molondy Road and HUNT Road.
$500 for two weeks.
I'm checking into another hunting cabin over in Damascus with the whole 9 yards.
I'm just chilling out watching my homing pigeons I picked up two weeks ago.
I got ten pairs on eggs already.
Once I get the youngsters banded and in a kit box I'll start flying them.
I'm picking up a old Japanese rifle on Saturday.
He doesn't know what caliber it is.

I took Mason to the Hoot and Shoot Father's Day camping trip in Eastern Washington this past weekend.
He had a hell of a good time. I thank the (Polish Rifleman) for hosting it.
He has some acreage out in the boondocks and has hosting this since 05 or 06.
Many have come and many have gone and a few have past away.
We were blessed to have been a part of it, and It is truly a proud man's deer and elk camp

Glad you had fun, any pictures?

Here is a few pictures.
There was a metal gong set up at 385 yards and Mason was constantly hitting it with the 357mag Ruger model 77. The wind was pretty stout. He had to aim high and to the left. He took one shot and the wind picked up right after he pulled the trigger and the bullet hit to the right of the target.
You talk about delayed reaction on the sound. It was 1,115 feet to the target and the bullet is going on the average 1,150 feet per second.

I just checked my dow tags 7S and 7J.

They just opened the area around Binghamton up for rifle use. I'm sure there are restrictions right next to Binghamton.

Some of the state lands are awesome for hunting and some are just plain set of woods.
There is so much state land around you could hunt a different set of state land all season long.

I will be useing a 243 rifle this year. I have several rifles there that I left there for deer hunting.
I had a guy who owed my some money for a couple of years and gave me a nice Browning 30/06 BAR with two extra new magazines and had a scope on it. I hate that gun, I gave it to one on my kids.

I like bolt action rifles, i did pick up a H&R handi-rifle with a set of barrels. One is 243 and the other is a 308.
I have an old Marlin 336 in 30/30 back there with open sights if it is raining out.

I need to load up some 30/30 bullets to test in it.
We will.be going to the Greene Sportsman Club on the 14th or 15th to shoot the rifles and make sure everything stayed in place.
I need to pick up another dehyderator for making jerky up. I didn't make anywhere enough last deer season.

We process all the deer we harvest and vacum seal the meat before freezing it. It doesn't take up long if they start to stack up.

My grandson is eight, I brought him back there a few weeks ago for squirrel hunting and to take him to a bunch of museums. I think I will bring him back there either next deer season or the ine after so he can go deer hunting with me.

I have been taking him shooting since he was four years old. Have around thirty-five handguns and he can shoot them all on his own.
I load down the 357 & 44mag for him.
He can shoot up to 308 rifle as well and hit clay pigeons set up at 85 yards setting at our shooting table.

A friend gave him a 223 AR15, He does good with that as well.
It"s all fun.
Mason is doing great with the handguns.

I just called in for my hunting license. Got denied on both doe tags so it looks like I'll get a couple when they come back up for sale November 1st.
I bought my airline ticket a few months ago so I'm all set for this year.
I bought a airline ticket for three weeks here in August.
I want to check on a couple of properties to buy and check on a hunting camp to rent.
Plus I'll get some trail cams set up and check them in November when I come back for deer hunting.
It will be deer season here shortly, time goes by so fast .

Broke right now to get my tags so will get them probably the end of the month, Sunday me and my buddy planted a small field on his small property, about 100' round. Can't remember the stuffs name was like half Rye and half wheat few with some other things mixed I like clover, turnips, and what not.

I'd love to have a few food plots.
We will have a new place to hut on up in South Plymouth this year.
I'll be back there for three weeks. We should get together and go do something.
I'll be flying back there next Tuesday.
I want to do some bullhead fishing for sure and maybe a float trip down the susquehanna river for small mouth bass.

What units did you apply for?
I went for 7P and 7R.

For my non-resident small game/big game license was $102 and some change.

I grew up in Schoharie County NY and left in 1974 to enter the USCG. Over the years between 1974 and 1989 I remained a NY resident and hunted every year in the Adirondacks and Rensselaer County where my wife's relatives lived. It seemed like I was the only one who ever was able to get a doe permit. Here in MD where I live, we can shoot one buck and another with a permit. As far as does in zone B we can shoot 10 under the same license. As a senior hunter my license is 5 bucks.

It's nice since they opened it up to use rifles for deer.
I hated being limited with rifled slugs out of a shotgun.
It should be a good season for everyone if you put the time in the woods.

A friend from Washington State will be coming back there on Thanksgiving day for just over a week of deer hunting.
He did good last year. He harvested two deer and his other half got one deer.
I'll have to load him up some 308 ammo for the rifle he will be using.
Last year he used one on my rifles I have at my kids house.

Got a few guns sighted in last month, may try for two more dmp tags Nov 1st. My buddy shot a 5 point the other day and got it all cut up yesterday, Eat the Tenderloins night he shot it and had half a back strap yesterday we made on his pellet smoker.

Going to try popping a deer with the 6mm ARC this year, didn't get to making a deer load up so will be shooting the 108 eld-m. Probably get some 90 grain speer hotcors to load up but still haven't got dies yet. I'm liking the 6arc so much in thinking of building a 16-18" upper for hunting or maybe getting a howa .

Checked my ruger 77 7x57 using the last of the 175 partitions loads so be the last year for them. Checked the 6.5 prc have both my deer load 140 hotcor and 147 eld-m and my pop a deer with the eld and see what it does, both shot same poa at 100 yards.

I looked on ebay for your dies , from $75 & up.
Do you need specific 6mm ARC brass or can you reform 243 or other caliber?
