"Through our guided hunting services, I am able to gain a great deal of statistics.
Without a doubt, the .270 Winchester has proven to be the most effective cartridge carried by clients in comparison to other non magnum, small bore cartridges."

I don't know about most effective in all hands but my .270 had been my go to game getter for 23 years now. I killed two bucks with it l last year. One st 75 yards and one st 250 yards. For whatever reason I have mostly hunted areas with long shots available and the .270 has gotten the job done out to 350 yards. 130 SGK soft points have been hard on the deer population

lets be be honest the 280 rem is better :neener:.

While it has the advantage of the heaver bullet weights - the Factory loadings are fairly anemic and not widely available.

(Handloads are a different story)

It also takes 10 grains more bullet weight and gives up velocity to match SD, or has to give up SD and BC to match velocity.

P.O. Ackley was able to "improve" the .280 Remington - not so the .270 Winchester.

"But the 270 Winchester Ackley Improved was a different story altogether,
another customer request that resulted in a wildcat inferior to the
standard cartridge.
P.O. wrote that the standard 270 was already "overbore,"
so a 40-degree shoulder with minimum taper couldn't offer much
improvement, if any."

P.O. ACKLEY FIREFORM IMPROVED WILDCATS FROM CURRENT FACTORY CARTRIDGES
Cartridge --- Performance Gain over Factory --- Ackley Comment
280 Rem. Ack. Imp. --- 250 fps with 140-gr. bullets --- Recommended, 7 mag veloc. in '06 case
270 Win. Ack. Imp. --- Little or none with more powder --- Not recommended, factory 270 is better

Many differences between .270 Win, .280 Rem, 6.5 CM, 30-06, .308 Win, and 7mm-08, among many many others, are theoretical.

Show me how any of these theoretical differences are factual differences on live game.

Then maybe I will drink that KoolAid.

Craig Boddington on Jack O'Connor: "He would never admit it in print, but in a letter to Ken Elliott he conceded that the .30-06 was a more versatile cartridge. I agree with that. Since 1976 I’ve usually had at least one of each, and although the .270 is only a .30-06 case necked down to take a .277-inch bullet, I see them as having distinct differences and applications."
There is no denying that the 270 has been so popular for so long that it clearly does the job well. No ability to improve? Gaston Glock claimed that for his gen 1 guns, and we're at gen 5 now.
