I know Open Carry HB910 passed and will be signed by Gov. Abbott if He already hasn't signed it... :) I know it won't be started until Jan 2016 and it's for CHL holders only... what else is involved in this bill? Thanks, Johnny

so now there will be 411.204 signs instead of 30.06 signs?

it also looks like they just took the CHL regulations and took out the word concealed and just replaced it with handgun.

I'm working on my BBQ rig. I can't decide between a true outside strongside belt holster or a cross draw shoulder rig under an open coat that discretely minimizes but doesn't hide the fact that I am open carrying. Maybe that way the average gunphobic citizen won't call the law in a panic. Regardless, I plan to have my ducks in a row to minimize verbal interaction with law enforcement by having my CHL and DL, etc. on a lanyard around my neck in view for easy reference.

Somewhere in one of my many boxes I have a genuine (vintage) made-in-Texas, shoulder holster. Oh the bling!!! Fully hand carved with black-dyed background. Inside lined of course.

I'm told the gent that owned it favored it when driving or riding in his Cadillac. This had to be in the 1920's or earlier.

Open Carry has been in my home state of Michigan for many years, what states all need to do now is constitutional carry.

Whenever I wear my shoulder holster under an open jacket, it's still very concealed.

Why don't you just get one of these? ....

I'd just have a bunch of those little decorative stars integrated into the Barbecue Rig

Good post Gameover!

Sadly I think Texas is too blue to take on constitutional carry in one leap. Fortunately there are many smaller steps that can be taken (church/nursing home/bat carry, completely defanging no carry signs, removing the fingerprint requirements for CHL, etc.).

That's very cool, but I'm afraid it would invite an extended discussion with LE, especially in Austin. It will take a while for the LE industry to get used to. Remember OC of handguns in public has been banned in Texas for 145 years.
What would invite a discussion? The gun under a jacket or the hokey badge? I think he was joking about the badge.

I gotta say this BBQ rig thing has me in a quandry. :banghead:

I want an alligator holster for sure.
Then I get to thinking maybe I need a custom 1911 for such a great holster.
Then an extra mag holder in gator too.
But I really should get the 1911 in 9mm like I've always talked about.
Will this require a new knife too?
Belt?
I'm gonna wear this driving that old truck?

So now I'm at the Chevy dealers, the wifi is kinda slow, and I'm starting to get why women agonize over shoes...:scrutiny:

it also looks like they just took the CHL regulations and took out the word concealed and just replaced it with handgun.

The new signs will be 30.07:

"Pursuant to Section 30.07, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with an openly carried handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a handgun that is carried openly"

The word "handgun" was removed from 30.06 so that there would only have to be one sign posted instead of two.

Time to Cowboy Up, Texans! Well, in January, that is.

My brother lives near Tyler and he's of the same mindset as me - no use for OC because he'd rather keep it hidden and a secret. But he's relieved that he doesn't have to worry anymore about accidental exposure or printing.

The change in the law will invite more casual concealment providing unobstructed access to the holstered handgun. Open carry should be legal but it does seem desirable to wear the arm in such a way that the disinterested observer is less likely to see it. I've noticed that potential predators are hyper alert to weapons and notice guns that are pretty well concealed. Going in less traveled areas- rural or urban might be appropriate places for visible handguns. A deeply wooded "trail" in a local park located near a high -crime area comes to mind. Parading in public with a highly visible rig is unlikely to favorably impress anybody. The whinies are going to go faint and the other gun owners will just be envious if your gun is bigger or prettier than theirs. An amazing number of the smart-phone fondlers are not going to be aware that open carry has become legal until they begin to see it in practice and Dial! 911 ! in a sick panic.. Since many are oblivious to anything not on the screen of their electronic nanny, that might go on for years.

This might work for a BBQ rig, bison hide Slide Guard from High Noon Holsters. P-09 is customized by Cajun Gun Works, but not "pretty", per se. ;)

Back to the new Texas law - it's much too limited. Why? You have to have a CCW permit to carry OPENLY. Being an Arizonan, who have had unrestricted open carry since before we were a state, this strikes as borderline goofy, BUT I see the steps left open, the foot in the door as it were. Perhaps next year they can pass something that grants an "open carry" license with less restrictions than a CCW permit, and keep moving like we did when we got Shall Issue in 1994, ending up with Constitutional Carry 16 years later in 2010. The Brady's know the phrase well - it's one of their favorites; the camels nose in the tent.
