Will Permitless Open Carry Continue to Expand?

Retention holsters are fine and should be used. I fail to see how they are an evil plot from gun control advocates. Unless it is the Serpa which leads to gun folks shooting themselves (sorry about this - bad me).

Lots of gun owners are for gun rights but oppose stupid behavior. That's different. For example, I oppose AWBs but think the Chipotle bros were idiots.

PS - was in the car dealership and two old toots were discussing when their buddy saw Bigfoot and a flying saucer land. They have the right to own a gun and vote!!

Been legal and common in NC for as long as I've been legally able to buy a handgun at least. Over 20 years.

The only time I do so is when I'm too lazy to take off my belt during deer season and go in the store with my 460 or 44 or 10mm. Lol.

I'm well known to be a gunsmith, gun owner, gun competitor....and ive lived where if you go to Walmart you WILL see at least one OC....and even I watch out for the tacti-cool individuals I see doing it.

I'm 100% in support of it though. And like others, if nothing else it eases the mind about flashing your gun when shutting your trunk or reaching up or whatever.

This reminds me of the wisdom of Dwight from the show The Office: I ask myself, "would an idiot do this?" and if the answer is "yes" I don't do it.

I appreciate the freedom to OC, but, especially in cases like the Chipotle bros, I don't see the advantage. It works to intimidate everyone who isn't part of the group whether or not they support RKBA. Add in non-RKBA politics and religion statements, and any potential positive reaction from the audience is lost.

Not quite. It is still illegal in Florida, as they allow permit-less concealed carry only.

IMHO open carry is a tactical mistake, saying"shoot me first".

You hear that... but ive talked to people in the store wearing an 8 inch 460 or 7 inch redhawk for 30 minutes and then then realize i was carrying it. So idk what the odds of anyone noticing a normal size gun are.

Still agree with you though.

Most people are oblivious to open carry

Most people won't try to snatch your gun. Most people won't mugger you, either.

When I'm traveling to and from our cabin I would often carry OWB though weather often includes a jacket.

One night while sitting at the counter of a dinner eating supper with my jacket off when I heard one of the departing customers tell his partner 'See, I'm not the only one" and I swivel around to see his as he walks by.

That's the only time it was mentioned.

Otherwise I'm carrying IWB and tucked in.

The only "gun owners" who support more gun control are criminals and politicians
There's also the "zero-sum game" mentality, which is quite common. In other words, if someone has his gun(s), he doesn't want anyone else to get a gun, because that would water down his perceived advantage. Therefore, he would make it as difficult as possible to be a new owner.

Of course, such a person would draw the line at confiscation of existing guns. The problem is that once gun control gets rolling, it's not going to stop at someone's red line.

The overarching question here is whether gun owners see themselves as a community, with common interests, or whether they see themselves as stand-alone individuals. The stereotypical "rugged individualism" of gun owners works against their interest in collective action. And the antigun leadership exploits this.

That's why gun rights organizations are so important.

Open carry renders those worries irrelevant.

Well yes...but...

I've carried almost 50 years. Working as a Federal Leo I've probably carried in at least 30 states. Many of them blue states that consider firearms horrific. That cones to over 18,000 days I've carried a gun. Most of them concealed. I've had exactly 3 times when I was challenged when MY GUN GOT EXPOSED. Not by accident. All 3 times I was a Federal officer and had a legal out. No problems.

My point is I've carried a gun in NJ, NY, Boston, Chicago, Baltimore, and a lot of other gun unfriendly places. Always made an effort to conceal. Never had an issue other than what I mentioned above.

Considering the arthritis I'm dealing with, I prefer OC (not allowed in IL-ANNOY) as it is easier to draw my 4" revolver with the rig I have rather than from my waistband.

Forgive me for asking this, I'm not trying to be a smart-ass but how much difference can the thickness of your trousers make?

I'm not sure why but a lot of people seem to conflate an Outside the waistband holster with Open Carry.

I guess it's sciatica thing but inside the waistband holsters are painful to me.

I know I asked in the post above what's the difference in the thickness of your trousers but it seems like an inside the waistband holster all of that pressure is on that spot and the outside waistband holster seems to distribute it a little better.

Anyway I only use outside the waistband holsters and then I just put a shirt on over it

In my old age, I prefer OWB and extra mag at 3:00 and 9:00 and have no trouble concealing the firearm. Given my old age, I don't need to be wrasslin' with anyone over the gun. In fact, a geezer with OC might look tempting for a wrasslin' match. Yes, your geezer situational spider sense will detect a grab attempt - while you are trying to remember where you car is located in the parking lot.
