I think they would be happiest if you carried one of these:

Can't go taking advantage of that modern technology. Gotta keep you guys in the 18th century, for you own good of course.
Or go back a little further and use an original Claymore. Be sure to yell, "Freedom! Freedom!" when you use it.

Sorry but, thats funny, I think the sword might be banned though, it could poke someone, and they seem to have an issue with that lately....

That just caused a most hilarious visualization. :D

I'm sorry you guys over there in Great Britain have lost your rights. We should be aware it could happen here too if we aren't careful. It even happened to Australia.

As for putting injured animals down, I see no reason why a Hi Power in 9mm wouldn't do a good job. IMO either a 9mm or a .38 Special would work well. (I like revolvers better)

If it where me and I was restricted I would want a S&W mod 10 with a 3" barrel and a hogue grip. It still beats a pointy stick!

To the comments on swords- already stopped that one! Cannot purchase a sharp bladed edged weapon over a certain length (exact length escapes me)

Black powder pistols are available (on a firearms cert) but only for range stuff!

I'm lucky, I get to play with all the normal stuff (BHP, 226, L85, minimi, gpmg, AI L96 etc) ,
unlike the majority of people in my country!

.22 Hornet rifle. Powerful enough and quiet. Plus very useful for the bunnies and such. It's just my opinion, but I think a hand gun is a poor choice. I've tried killing cows with a .38 special, wasn't pretty.

ok, thanks for all of the input on this. I do quite a lot of humane dispatch stuff already. i tend to use a single barrel shotgun with SG cartridges in most cases. However, quite a lot of my more recent jobs have been in a more urban surround. I often work with police officers with me. not all are deer. the captive bolt won't work because a deer with a broken back and a decent set of antlers is still quite dificult to persuade to keep still while i place it on its head. a .22rf would have the worry about riccochet.

thanks none the less

Do bolt guns and .22 actually kill quickly? I watched the butchering of cattle and after a blast with the bolt gun they were still very much alive just stunned. Is this so the heart continues to pump the blood out when throat is cut?
Just a thought. I vote shotgun with slug. Can you have those in UK?

That's so sad, I just want to give you an e-hug. ;)

It amazes me that support for an armed citizenry is so scarce that politicians get away with that stuff, leaving little chance for change. It's not a monarchy, but it might as well be.

Actually, it kind of IS a monarchy. The Queen and Prince Phillip have no problems gunning for upland birds and game in Scotland. And she gets to carry a great big Sword of State on formal occasions, without a permit. :)

This conversation makes me sad. OP I am glad to see you taking a initiative and trying to get a firearm, its just sad that you are subjected to such regulations.

Some parts of our country are not that far off their regulations. In due time, who knows?

See,,, we don't want to be the friggen UK. My family left the UK many years ago. I would rather be dead than face that type of life.
