I am happy to announce that as of 30 November 2013 I will be fully retired at the age of 56. Knowing that this was happening I began to buy ammo in the calibers that I shoot most often. Rimfire ammo was one of the target calibers as was 5.56 or 223, 30/30, 30-06, 35 rem, 45 cal, 9mm,357,and 38. Now that I am on a limited income still maintaining my lifestyle without sacrifice, I still have plenty of ammo to shoot for several years without having to purchase any, than theres the reloading as well. Here is what I have on hand as far as 22lr and 22 magnum goes. I started buying befoe President Obama became president and have yet to buy ammo since his term in office. I LOVE MY CRYSTAL BALL.

I finally got a chance to straigthen and organize my ammo safe. I kind of giggle to myself now that I can organize my ammo by brand, color whatever pleases me as I now have time.

As far as shooting I still have several years of hunting ammo in stock in various calibers, and over a hundred pounds of brass for reloading. This should keep me busy for a week or two.:D:D

It is a fine start. I'm storing over 28k in 22lr alone. Sorry, not for sale.

I better not show you my stash, you'll think you need to buy more. :) Over a year ago I bought around 90,000 22lr and about 25,000 22mag and around 15,000 17HMR. The UPS lady always gave me a hard time telling me I didn't know what I was talking about when I told her ammo was going to get hard to get. She admitted she was wrong!

Congratulations on your retirement and having the good sense to plan ahead.

Check the dates on some of this stuff. I've been planning ahead for a long time. :)

Congratulations on the retirement. I went out 01 May of this year and I have really grown to enjoy it. I also have always maintained a good stash of ammunition plus a good stock of components to roll my own. What I really enjoy is having the time to enjoy getting to the ranges as often as I like.

Some of you fine gentleman make me feel a little "under equipped":D. It is good to be in such fine company. The Obama Drought will last 8 years, luckily I had enough ammo all this years to shoot without having to purchase any. It also allowed me to share with fellow shooters who took their children but had no ammo for them. We have to keep the young interested, it is our duty.

This is all I have left now, but it allows me to be diligent and not buy bulk ammo for $80 a box.

I worked as a self employed carpenter until I was 29, then I did twenty years in law enforcement. I retired a year and a half ago at 49. Life is good!

No wonder there's a shortage of .22RF!!!! ;)

That really isn't that much, maybe 7-8K rounds of 22LR. You have pretty good variety and I like your choices, especially the Wolf amd CCI SV. You need to add some of the Federal Champion (Lightning) as soon as Walmart starts to get it again.

Excellent planning. If you also have stored plenty of centerfire (plus some handgun ammo?), then well done!

The only type I fell behind on was .22LR. But now, with a First handgun (WW2 Sauer)...a whole new world.

I really could use some of the copper 22LR CCI's, I have a Jenning J-22 which is a prissy gun and will only fire quality bullets like the CCI. My wife's ruger will fire any piece of 22LR you put in it. So I've been leaving the Jennings at home and just shooting my 38 and 357.

M2 Carbine you are my hero. Unfortunately for me I never bothered shooting 22lr. I made the jumb from a Red Ryder BB gun to centerfire rifles. I did not get hooked on 22lr until 2008 thats when I went crazy buy 22 rifles.

Congrats on retirement. Your new job, make that pile disappear one tiny piece at a time.

Back in the good old days, when rimfire ammo was plentiful, I would pick some up every time I went to Walmart or found it on sale at the local gun shop. I still have quite a bit of it left and hope that it will last to when supply finally catches up with demand.

Therein would be the trick to always being well stocked. The current ammunition shortage is not the first and figure it won't be the last. New shooters need to make this a practice. Not just for rimfire ammunition but all ammunition. Try to have a little fund stashed to cover the cost if need be.

A year ago yesterday (Thanksgiving) while looking at the advertising in the paper I saw Gander Mountain with Federal 223 on sale, 1,000 rounds in a steel ammo can for $299. I never would think about going out on Thanksgiving or Black Friday but considering Gander Mountain is 10 min down the road I figured why not. Got there are 9:10 AM (they open at 9:00 AM) and not much of a crowd. I grabbed two cases and left. A few weeks later Sandy Hook! Go figure.

Oh wait! In addition to my 22 LR stash I also have my large stash (stockpile) of 308 Win. Check this out:

I actually had a whole 20 rounds but went to the range last week and shot one so I still have a whopping 19 rounds and only need to replace one.

M-2 Carbine

You da Man !!.

I might be close to your stash, some of my .22's are from the 1970's .

I was a bit of a prepper back then.

I am down to about 12 to 16K as to .22's and still finding them at "reasonable" prices [ 40.00 for brick of CCI ].

I love to shoot and do so as often as time allows = being retired, that is often.

I have plenty of center fire ammo for hunting, that I do not need to buy for at least 6 years, some as long as 10 years. Some of the 30/30 and 30/06 which is my main hunting go to rounds are marked at $7.99 and $8.99 my 35 rem at $11.99. I did not acquire my 35 rem at a later time when my uncle willed it to me.

On top of that I have saved all the brass, once fired for when I would get into reloading. Now I will reload as well. So I'm good.
