POLL: 9mm 124gr coated bullet powder, going to try something new for a powder want to stay around 1050 fps as this is for
paper punching target loads , I have been using sport pistol which is very good but want to try another powder as a back up as sport pistol and even be86 will be harder to source and western powders are easier to source in my area
so lets see what you all pick
thanks

I’d load all of my 9 mm with accurate number seven. I like that I can easily duplicate my carry load with it.

It depends on what you’re trying to do and what gun you’re loading for. Generally speaking, if you’re shooting a 1911, then pretty much pick your pistol powder and tailor the gun to shoot it.

If you’re loading for a striker fired pistol and want to duplicate the feel and velocity of factory, then something along the lines of AA #7 or HS-7 are appropriate. WST, in terms of burn rate, is closer to AA #2 and WSF is close to AA #5. I’ve used the faster powders in 1911’s with good success for target loads, but in something like a Glock the gun just doesn’t act right. To me, the slower powders perform better.

With that bullet and velocity, you’re looking for a minor PF load. Most of the competition shooters would pick N320 or Titegroup. I’ve also had good results with IMR Target and W244 (or W231). I don’t have loads for what your poll shows.

I do have good loads worked up with sport pistol and be86 , I am interested in the western powders I listed as they seem to be in good supply

I went to the range today to test several 9mm loads with new to me powder and bullet combinations. Used HS-6, Sport Pistol, and AA#7 with Lee 120TC castings that were powder-coated. Actual bullet weight was 124 grains. All were very accurate but AA#7 came out the winner. Pic shows my best 10 shot group at 10 yards from a rest. If it wasn't for that one pesky flier at 6:00 there would've been one ragged hole. 7 grains of AA7 @1197fps seems like it may be pretty snappy but they were actually a nice target load through my R1.

Of your list and velocity, my choice would be Silhouette, 2nd would be AA#5. I have never tried Zip, but it looks like you would be pushing hard to get your desired velocity.

Ah, loading for a 1911. 231 is a good powder for propelling lead. Really, try 231. Many consider it to be a magic powder. Sort of a jack of all trades.

I have used Tite Group, Unique, BE-86, CFE-Pistol and Power Pistol for 124gr bullets but none of the ones listed

This is funny.
OP asks "...of these 4 powders, which is most suitable ?"

Answers : "... Any powder except those 4..."

Ask 5 reloaders which powder to use get 7 different answers.

We live in the good old days. There are so many different powders suitable for for use, we can't make up our collective minds.

Such a wonderful problem to have.

That's kind of what I was thinking, and although I'm not familiar with AA powders, that's what the burn rate chart tells me. AA#5 or maybe TrueBlue? ...with AA#7 on the outside if he can't reach is FPS goal.

This is funny.

Yes, I found that a bit humorous. It's happened to me as well... ask a question and everyone knee-jerks without reading the entire OP.

I'm jealous! ;) Nobody in my area stocks a serious supply of Western Powders.
I'm curious, what is your COAL?

Hi...
My son and I have switched over to Power Pistol for target shooting loads for 9mm 124gr coated commercial cast LRN.
We also are now using it for 10mm, .40S&W and .45ACP.
I still prefer Bullseye for .45ACP but my son is doing most of the .45ACP loading these days and he has decided that Power Pistol meters well in my Hornady progressive LnL powder measure and that it is cleaner than Bullseye.
He believes it's more economical to stock only one powder for those auto loading pistol cartridges.
I suppose I will just use up my supply of Bullseye when loading .38Spl cartridges. I have a good bit of Bullseye so it may be quite some time until I need to replenish my Bullseye stock at the slow rate that I shoot .38Spl.

Bullseye. Auto disc throws 4.2 grains flawlessly under a 124gn RMR FMJ. I haven't chrono'd it, but it should be close to 1000ft/sec.

I've tried power pistol and BE-86, both make some nice loads. But they're less economical.
I do have a lb of True Blue, but I need to run a ladder work up.
