now that some powder is coming back I want to try another one what would you guys try for 124 / 125 grain coated LCN
target loads say around 1050 fps give or take shooting factory guns unmodified ?
of just the powders on the list
Thanks

A medium to light load of HS6 was very dirty for me, the only thing I have had to coke up the chamber to the point of malfunctions.

Power Pistol has a bright flash and loud report. During my one can experiment, I heard more than once: "What have you GOT in that thing?"

Half a can of AA5 from an estate sale was OK.

No experience with Autocomp.

I’m using Autocomp more than anything right now, 4 lbs this year. But I consider HS-6 and PP to be more accurate, just remember that they need to be loaded on the warm side.

I substitute hs-6 for Silhouette. They are both good for 9mm major loads but Silhouette is a flake and works better across a wider load range. It's not fussy at low charges and a lot of those listed work way better only when in the top of the range. It was cheaper than the rest prior to hogden acquisition so that used to be a big plus. #madeINtheUSA

I like Sport Pistol. It meters well. I have used it with Hi Tek coated and jacketed bullets with good results.

Of the powders you.list I would choose HS-6 but my first choice would be W231.

Because you asked for a target round...
With a 124gr LRN bullet:
4.0gr W231
1.125" OAL
AV 1009fps
ES 27.7
SD 10.6
1.25" from 25 yards off a rest.
With a charge of 4.4gr the velocity increases to 1090fps and the ES and SD numbers are only ever so slightly higher.

AA#5 works fine for a mid-range target load.
HS-6 I reserve for faster 124 gr.
Auto-comp, honestly, nothing stands out about it in my memory about it. But I only used 1 lb. of it.
Power Pistol, never have used it.

Try to find some WST for low velocity loads.

The issue with WST, which I really like in mid-range .45ACP loads, is there is very little modern, published data for WST in the 9mm. Hodgdon data does not list one load in 9mm with WST.

AA#5 works fine for a mid-range target load.
HS-6 I reserve for faster 124 gr.

That was kind of my thought as well.

The starting powder charges of Alliant's Unique & Bullseye. 700X, HS-6, W244 all worked the action with no feeding problems.

Unique is still my go-to for the 9mm, although I understand it's availability is a little spotty these days. I've also used W244 with reasonable results, although it seemed a little picky about charge weight and COL.

Power Pistol is my main go to powder for 9mm 124gr plated. If you can find it, it's an excellent powder. I use it in my 38 special 125gr plated loads too.

Certainly, TiteGroup, W244, and CFE Pistol should be included in the list. Just because CFE Pistol is good for the most number of uses, that has become my choice. However, TiteGroup is probably the best overall for 9mm. I treat W244 as the going forward as a replacement for HP-38.

Of those listed I voted HS-6 with Power Pistol as a close 2nd. I might suggest you take a look at Clean Shot as another alternative. Have used all 3 and like them all.

Not on your list but when I was shooting lead 124/125s in 9mm I liked Universal.
WSF also worked well for me but I tend to prefer a midrange powder in 9mm.
AA#2, N320, Sport Pistol would all be good choices to try as well, as for target loads with lead most people tend to prefer a powder a with a little faster burn speed than the choices you listed.

I generally load plated bullets but when I bought some coated bullets from Hoosier Bullets they recommended Sport Pistol.

I used what I had at that time…W231. It worked okay.

Today I’d likely use N320…

For lead 124 target loads I prefer a faster powder than the 4 on your list. Tightgroup, Red dot, N320, Sport Pistol, 244, 231 all work well for me.
