What you wrote?
You wrote that if you are dumb enough to live in a bad neighborhood, you deserve to get robbed.
You said they should move to a better neighborhood.
You then stated that criminals have no use for those poor houses and they move to better areas for better pickings.
So, what is it? Move from a bad neighborhood to get away from crime or move to a better neighborhood where the
criminals will go for better loot?
I dont know. I'm just confused now. I live in a middle working class neighborhood. Should I just stop mowing the lawn and let my trash flow out into the yard to confuse the criminals? I guess as long as my place looks like more of a $@&!hole than my neighbors than maybe I dont even need a gun. I need to rethink this whole being armed thing.....

This is an old Bureau of Justice Statistics report that covers 2003-2007 involving the topic. https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/vdhb.pdf

This is the National Criminal Victimization Survey report which contains a large sample to estimate crimes via surveys so that unreported crimes as well as reported to police crimes (reflected in the UCR) are included. https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/cv18.pdf

The NCVS survey apparently collects where the events took place as well as defensive gun use (see Gary Kleck's work using this data). But this data is not reflected in the reports. I'll look around and see if there is some recent compilations of the data.

Part of the confusion is that consistently a majority of people "knew" the persons committing the crimes against them. This includes incidental contact though workplace, lawn/home service personnel, education, and so on and obviously domestic violence reports are all from situations where the victim knew the attacker.

I have found little to nothing to support the assertion that the folks assaulted were mostly drug dealers, other criminals etc.
Now, there is a linkage on homicides where in major metropolitan areas, a statistically small number of criminals progress to murder and their victims also often have a criminal record.

I would just politely point out, the thread somehow veered off into whacko land with the assertion that somehow the victims were complicit with the perps or just didnt have the good sense to move elsewhere... What the thread "is" about is a woman who thankfully had access to an AR to defend her daughter and husband and the fact that she was outnumbered 2 gunmen to 1 gun"woman" and she won the gunfight. THANK GOD FOR THAT AR15, and the woman....lol

I think the headline for the article should be "Pregnant woman with AR15 wins Gunfight against 2 armed home invaders".

It conveys more to people who scan the headline without reading the story that a pregnant woman not only killed two intruders, but that she was forced to engage in a gunfight with them. This plants it in people's minds that sometimes you dont get alternative options such as calling the police for help or hiding, it conveys that sometimes you're home is invaded and you are getting shot at whether you have a gun or not. This might force people to consider whether in that situation they want to have a gun and what gun do they want to have after reading that headline? Yes, an AR15...

I think this thread has gone well beyond it's original scope...well beyond any attempt to straighten it out...so let's put it to bed
