That's what I do. I use the primer pocket cleaning bit from my Hornady trio...mounted vertically...and just slip the case over to see if it fitsIf you size them on a single-stage press, come in behind that process and tap them all with a LP go-nogo gauge... that should ID the SP brass pretty handily without straining the old eyeballs too much.
This is even easier. I load SPP .45ACP almost exclusively in my Lee Pro 6000I’m saving my LPP for something else, trying to use up my SPP .45 brass right now
SMART!Fill an empty ammo tray with the head stamps facing down. Place another empty tray on top of that and flip it over. The head stamps are now facing up for examination. This is the fastest way for me, but I do 100 at a time.
Easy!: Sorting and Checking Brass with Ammo Tray
Every now and then I see something and think, "I want to try that." This is one of those instances. In this video, I attempt to use an ammo tray from a box...m.youtube.com
You're going to be throwing away a lot of cases if you collect range pick-up.If it don't prime, throw it away. SPP 45 brass is a scourge and most likely cursed.
Agree. Prepandemic, my indoor range collected and sold brass by the bag. For 45acp it was 500 small and large mixed. About 30% of each bag were smalls. I bought five bags and never trashed any. You're going to be throwing away a lot of cases if you collect range pick-up.
Had a local shooter who bought some once-fired.45ACP cases and over half of them were SPP. Knowing that I shot SPP, he gave them to me...as do a lot of other shooters now. I'm thinking I have somewhere between 3000-5000 that I rotate through...makes keeping my primer supply up easier and less expensive
I like the option of SSP .45 because LPP was very hard to get once! near impossibleYou're going to be throwing away a lot of cases if you collect range pick-up.

sometimes special about .45 ACP brass. Once clean, they look like gems! can’t toss those bad boys away!!!Agree. Prepandemic, my indoor range collected and sold brass by the bag. For 45acp it was 500 small and large mixed. About 30% of each bag were smalls. I bought five bags and never trashed any.
That's really interesting. Need a field trip out there. It's been a while.LPP is still rare in my area, late last year I stopped by a Sportsman's, (about 150 mi away), and was able to buy 1K Remmington. I gave half to a friend who has spotted me primers in the past, he is glad to have SPP 45 acp cases or he couldn't shoot!
YEP! just figured that outUse the dull end of a 3/16" drill bit as a go/no go gauge in the primer pocket.
I was hoping jmorris would show his solution.
He invented some kind of electech whiz bang on one of his auto drive dillions that would stop automatically when a SP case was presented.
