Sorting 45 ACP brass

I had a primer tube stack containing about 70 or so LP primers go off on me way back in the 1990s on a Hornady Projector progressive.
To this day, I'm still not sure what caused it, but it was a pretty darn scary experience.
Had about the same results as those pics too....pretty ugly, but fortunately I came out unscathed, except for the beating I took from my wife.
It was enough for me to NEVER prime off a primer stack ever again. I prime off the press with an RCBS hand primer.
As to sorting that .45ACP stuff out, I look at the head stamp.... Any Blazer or Federal immediately gets tossed to the side to be looked/sorted later.
I won't even attempt to reload the sp .45 cases. I trade em off to my brother for LP cases. So far, the trading has worked out good for both of us.

Being of the generation of “never throw anything away”, all brass matters.
The sorting pans do a good job of separating .45’s, maybe along with a few .44 but then they all get wet tumbled and primer sorted by eye. I’m hoping there’s a study underway that confirms sorting by eye, coupled with the hand coordination will stave off Alzheimer’s.
Recently my son is shooting more .45 than me so he gets that sorting chore. I’m relegated to separating 9, .380 and .38super/comp. It’s so much easier than looking at primer pockets.
