Hi,

Looking for a full size 9mm semi auto I can shoot, shoot, and shoot! That would be its only purpose in life. I have guns for other purposes. Would take it to the range and shoot, shoot, and shoot. Would get a good number of mags, but otherwise would not modify it. I have a Glock 17 but it has been modified for competition. It is Gen 2. If I got a newer Glock, it would have the finger grooves. Not wanting to messing with removing them.

What are your suggestions, comments, pics?

Thanks.

P1000137.jpg [/URL IMG_6121.jpg . Either one will do the Walther PPQ or the PT92 by Taurus. This particular Taurus is 35 yrs old , but you get the picture.

if you are just going to burn ammo through it, maybe a HK P30 or VP9.

I would be tempted by a XDm 5.25 though. They are fun guns to shoot.

9mm shooting is not more enjoyable than with a Cz or walther. I'd say a Cz p01, p09, 75b/SA, or Shadow. Walther ppq 5" or Q5 match. Or as others have mentioned, a full size 9mm 1911 would certainly fit the bill as a fun to shoot all day 9mm handgun. The Springfield RO in 9mm is a lot of bang for your buck

Why the objection to finger grooves? From your description of what you want, a Glock 17 or 34 Gen 4 seems the perfect solution.

I got really big/fat fingers and they don't fit all that well between the grooves. I have a Glock 17 but it is a Gen 2 w/no grooves.

If I were looking for a 9mm to Shoot Shoot Shoot it would be either full size 1911 or a Browning Hi-Power. Pick up a dozen magazines and have at it. You will be able to shoot all day and night.

One thing, if you don't already you better take up reloading or go broke, even with a 9mm.

1) 1911 in 9mm
2) CZ 75SA - the single-action variant
3) Browning High Power
4) 1911 in 9mm
5) 1911 in .38Super w/9mm conversion

I've got 2 Springfield Range Officers in 9mm a 4" & 5". Absolutely amazing pistols. I've also got a Glock 17L that is amazing as well. Many good choices here. If the finger grooves are a problem, they can be easily removed.

They all sound like winners. On the finger grooves, I have yet to see a Glock with only the finger grooves removed. I don't want to customize it by doing a stippling job on it. If anyone has videos or pics of one with just the fg's removed, I'd like to see it. Thanks!

Hipower with mag disconnect removed. You can also switch out the hammer spring to lighten up the trigger. Polish a few internal spots and you're good to go!

Seriously, your trigger can be butter smooth, though not as light as a 1911. There's nothing like the hipower grip in your hand with Pachmayer signature grips. Much more comfortable than the stock wood or plastic grips.

Look for a good used one, no need for a new purchase for a "shooter!"

You can shoot this setup for hours with no fatigue! The all-steel gun just soaks up the recoil. Really!

Whatever it is, make sure it has parts available, as you will eventually wear out and/or break parts (especially springs) if you are going to shoot it a lot.

Hi Powers are not known for their endurance. The slide velocity it too high.

The best bets for long endurance have been stated here: Well built polymer guns like Glocks and HKs, plus overbuilt steel guns like 9mm 1911s. The older Rugers like the P89 or P95 might be good ones, too. With WWB type loads a Beretta 92 or Sig P226 could go over 100,000 rounds, but that just doesn't compare to the hundreds of thousands Glocks and USPs have been documented as taking.

Personally, if you like your Gen2 Glock, just buy another used one. You've got the mags for it. Get a 17L or 19 if you want something different.
