If you are considering it.....yes you should. I ordered a Service Grade H&R, barrel dated July '54, last summer. Last weekend I fired a 2 inch group prone at 100 yds using hand loads. Muzzle gauges a 1, throat gauges a two. Metal looks almost new. I think I need another.

Simple answer.....YES Buy a Garand

Garands are my only weakness. The CMP Special grades are an excellent value for a commercial rebuild, but I collect original military rifles, so not my cup of tea. I've purchased from the CMP and private parties for years, and there is always a Garand either coming in for me or being placed for sale from my collection.

Here are a few of the kids:

I only have one that I bought back in '99 from the CMP. It is the one gun you'd have to pry out of my cold dead hands to get. I love the 'ol gun. It has chewed on my my thumb a couple of times but I just figured it was letting me know it likes me.:)
BTW, I have it set up right at the moment with a B-Square scope mount and a sniper cheek pad(bought from the CMP) to use a Burris 4x scope. It also has a muzzle brake and an adjustable gas plug so I can use commercial ammo. It shoots quite well.

Yes. You won't regret it. I have two SA Correct Grades, and one each SA and HRA Special Grade. With Greek HXP M2 Ball (also from CMP) they are a pleasure. Importantly, you'll know exactly what you're getting and CMP customer service is second to none.

Dollar for dollar probably the best deal in the gun world. I got a couple back in the early 80's. Then you just sent your money and you took your chances. Mine were pretty beat up. ;) A Winchester and a Springfield.

This is like a CMP lovefest.... so I'll pile on!! :D That organization is absolutely a class A act. Mine is a Springfield SG Special from CMP and it's awesome. Just a freaking great rifle - I like everything about it.

Go CMP for sure - they stand behind their stuff and have great ammo deals as well! The paperwork stuff is really a very slight inconvenience for what you get in return.

Have 2 M1's from the CMP. A Springfield and a Winchester. Both Field grades, and I am very happy with them. Both are WWII era rifles, and a blast to shoot. Neither one looks like a new rifle, but the character is what I like about them. If only they could talk and tell the story of where they have been the last 68 years... My next Garand will be a Service grade HRA.

Buy one now before they are gone.

Should I buy a M1 Garand from CMP?

Yes, you and all of your friends/family should buy an M1 from CMP. The supply will not last forever. When I first started purchasing from CMP, they had Krags, 1917's, model 1903's and 03A3's of every type, Garands from every manufacturer, M1 Carbines (on occasion), and more surplus .22 trainers than you could shake a stick at. The list has steadily grown shorter and shorter. It now appears that for the most part they're down to post-war Garands, so get them while you can.

Thousands are awaiting repatriation back to the States. They have served well near and far. Welcome home .

Yes,You should buy an M1 from the CMP, an opportunity such as the M1 Garand program rarely presents in this the modern world.
