I live in Illinois and the gun dealer licensing legislation was a concern to me, as it would have put many LGS' out of business. As it stands the legislation they did push through as a result of this is putting about half of our LGS' out of business. At the time I had a number of SA's and called them to hear their side of the story and received a call back from Stephany Reese. In short, my recommendation to her was to disclose whatever information they had that would back their story. Other than blaming the lobbyist she had no other answer, and SA never released additional information. One of my LGS' is also a manufacturer, was heavily involved in fighting this legislation and was privy to some of the things going on. SA and Rock River Arms were the IFMA and chose to hire a lobbyist with a very questionable background. For them to pretend they didn't know what was going on is not believable. At best they jumped into bed with a sleazy lobbyist, and they can't then be surprised when he continued to act in that manner. At worse they were aware of what was going on and they were ok with throwing us under the bus so they could have their carve outs. They were not under any circumstances the victims they portray themselves as.
In regards to purchasing their guns going forward, I'd rather buy a gun from a company who didn't do what they did but won't compromise my familie's safety to do so. By way of example I bought their XDM 10mm, as it was exactly what I needed in a woods gun. We've had a couple of encounters with bears while hiking (fortunately nothing came of them), and I won't carry a gun that's not the best option for me to make a political statement. I'm pretty well invested in P365's so I don't know that I'll consider the Hellcat, but if that wasn't the case and it was the best option for me as a carry gun I'd buy one.
