Survivorman Gun

In less than an hour from now Suvivorman comes on the Discovery Channel. This is the episode titled "Labrador" and is only the second one that featured a gun that i know of.

The rifle looks like a CZ with the Barvarian hump buttstock. I wanted to know if anyone had identified this gun before. If not how about watching and see what you come up with?

After the Death Wish guns this might be fun too.
 
i believe 3rd if it is a new one

1st he was roaming the ice after his snoe mobile "broke down" and then when he made a survival kit and was traveling with a dog team
 
O.K. Glen educate me. Why is it funny? I got the Barvarian hump term from the gun writer John Barsness of Rifle and Handloader magazine. If its wrong blame him. If its spelling i'm the guilty one. So which is it?
 
the "Labrador" episode was the dog sledding episode. he said it was a 22LR, im not sure of the model, from memory it looked like a CZ bolt.
 
Hey Supernaut i have no problems. If there is something funny hell i want to laugh too. I hate not getting a joke. I am in no way offended and was laughing at asking what i did.

Its all good and i know there are some smart joe's here that will be able to identify that rifle.

Believe me you would really have to work hard to get my feathers ruffled. Thomas.

I think i'm getting it now. Sorta like some of those nonsensical newspaper headlines that can be taken the wrong way.

Well if i wrote something and made you guys laugh, then good for me. People don't laugh enough anymore.
 
I think I dated a gal who suffered from that "Barvarian hump buttstock , lol, "it is funny sounding"

I wuz kinda hopin' we wuz gonna talk about gunz in this thread?

I mean, love a good yuck now and then, but wasn't there a rifle under discussion?

Provided we can keep a straight face for five minutes?
 
The gun looks like a CZ to me. I'll leave out any reference to the stock from here on out. What was throwing me was the magazine and trigger guard that looks like a Cacano setup. Instead of the mag being ahead of the trigger guard they appear to be a single unit.

Maybe an older model rifle.
 
Les has nothing against using a gun. However most of his shows assume a worst case scenario where he has no firearms.
 
What ticked me off was the entire "drill a hole in the stock, and then only fill it up with half a dozen cartridges" idea. Survivorman would be eating moss pretty soon if that's all the ammo he figured on needing. Brilliant!
 
I'm pretty sure it is either this Winchester wildcat or the same basic gun branded by the russian manufactuer. can remember exactly what model that was but it had a closer looking stock.

tube fed guns still don't hold all that much ammo. plus in my experience tubes suck and will break or jam before a detachable mag.
 
I think the idea with the rounds in the (i'm almost afraid to say it now) buttstock was to have at least a few rounds if you were seperated from everything else.

I have a new 981t from Marlin with the plastic stock and a removable butt (theres that word again) plate and when you remove the 4 ounce weight the stock has a lot of room for survival supplies.

I have read that the old woodsmen of the 17th and 18th centuries would tie their shooting bags and moccosins to their rifles before bed in case of attack from indians. All they had to do was grab the gun and go.

I am surprised no one has came up with a make and model for this gun by now. I think everyone is spending waaay to much time thinking about that Barvarian hump.

That's what I thought, but it had a barrel band..the Winchester doesn't.
It's not any current CZ model. Hate when I can't figure something like this out!
 
Waid i got a Marlin 25 yesterday and when running a few rounds through the mag it instantly jammed. I tried to call Marlin to order 2 new mags and they were already closed by noon. I worked on it for a while and now it feeds but it sure soured me on detachable mags.

I still prefer the tubes. The tube can be damaged if dropped on it. A tube feed with an extended stock would be a neat idea. A synthetic stock that went to the end of the mag tube with a molded port for loading would be just great. I don't see it happening though.

Just goes to show there is pros and cons to each design. I guess thats why they make both.
 
I tend to suspect since he is in canada that that is a variation on the same rifle for another importer in canada. Any of Canadian members familiar with a similar imported design? I actually did not notice any barrel band.

Ratshooter, I do understand the problems with detachable magazines but I've really never had any on my guns or friends guns, I'm problably just lucky. I will say that I prefer the lifter mechanism required in things like shotguns or feeding odd shaped ammo like shotgun shells. Of course the majority of problems I've seen with tube mags would be eliminated with one that the tube is in the butt stock, or a shotgun or lever action style tube magazine(although that is still easily damaged.
