I was house sitting for my Son this last weekend. He lives in an up scale neighborhood south of Tucson, Sahuarita. Many, if not most of the residents are involved in law enforcement, including my Son. His next door neighbors, and those across the street are DEA, BP, ect, so you would think it's a pretty quiet neighborhood.

On the evening of the 4th I heard the expected sounds of fire crackers going off all around. Then late into the night and long after most of the fireworks had subsided, I heard what I knew to be gun shots coming from a few houses away. I still didn't get too alarmed, as I just figured it was some idiot celebrating with his guns. But then I heard a bunch of yelling and women screaming. I looked out my window and saw people running down the street screaming and then more gun shots, then sirens. As it turned out, the folks down the way were having a big 4th of July party. Several of the party goer's got into an argument which escalated to a gun fight.

Fortunately, no one got hurt, but there were multiple cars shot up, and with windows shot out, and at least one house was pretty shot up also. From what I understand, a couple of people were arrested and charged with endangerment, discharging a firearm in the city limits, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

This community has been rated as one of the safest in Pima County, yet it has experienced multiple deadly events, home invasions, kidnappings, and burglaries. My point being, you can't judge a neighborhood by it's appearance or it's rating.

from what you said... everyone was in law enforcement and that many many rounds were expended... houses shot up.... cars shot up, must be community of blind misfits.. with no regard for the neighbors or their property.... this pristine safe community has turned into a typical East LA Ghetto over night....
The thing that jumped right out is that there was arguments and screaming and yet no was hurt... must be a half way house for disabled and blind former DEA agents and law enforcement.. so much for shot placement.

Even if a neighborhood starts out good, it can change drastically over time. When my parents bought a new house in 1967, they didn’t have to lock the front door. By 1983 almost every house on the street was surrounded by wrought iron fences out to the sidewalk and bars on the windows.

Honestly, maybe because everyone was so intoxicated, that in this case at least, it may have had some positive impact in terms of missing their intended targets, unless houses and cars were the targets, I dunna know.

This is a common occurrence in S. Arizona. We're over run by gangs and other criminal elements, they just take over new and existing neighborhoods. The drug cartels deliberately rent nice homes in up scale neighborhoods, and then use them as stash houses, something that this subdivision and countless others have fallen prey too.

And my point is, ratings and the over all appearance of a neighborhood can be way over rated, at least down here in S. Az..

I don't know how to post links, but the story can be found on "Tucson News Now" and should be in the front page "Sahuarita police arrest 2 in Sunday shooting incident" is how I think it's titled. Because it happened at 1:00 am it is technically a July 5th event, but it happened during a 4th of July party.

Ya, more of a reminder than a revelation, though when my Son bought his home, he was under the impression it was a nice quiet neighborhood. And to his surprise and disappointment, he has realized it's anything but. He's now looking for property away from the burbs, where he can build his home.

Times like those I wish "neighborhood justice" was still a thing. But then even amongst the armed the majority are still trained sheep.

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sahuarita police arrested two Tucson men in connection with a shooting incident that happened early on Sunday, July 5, in which cars and homes were damaged.

According to police, 20-year-old Marquis Forney and 25-year-old Jesse Zermeno Jr. were booked into Pima County Jail. Both were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm at a residence and endangerment. Forney was also charged with possession of narcotic drugs.

SPD officers responded to a call of a fight and the sound of gunshots or fireworks being fired near Camino del Velero and Calle de Ocaso just before 1 a.m on July 5.............rest of the story at the link

Doesn't sound like any members of the law enforcement community living there were involved. Living in an upscale neighborhood is no guarantee that everyone else who lives there is a good person or that they don't have people who live a criminal lifestyle among their friends.

I experienced something similar this past weekend. Very nice neighborhood, only trouble was every once in a while some bored kids breaking into a few cars. Walking home from a friends I encountered a party that moved into the street and then it erupted into fistfights. I turned around and walked back to my friends house for a ride.

"That kind of behavior is why I don't party with LEO"

No, I suspect the reason you don't party with LE is they've met you..

Just a little research would show that there were no officers involved - other than the ones responding to the 911, and the shooters weren't from the neighborhood.
