What am I missing in this 'training'? 'drills'?

I don't know why you would set times (particular long times). Use a shot timer and encourage people to go as fast as they can go while still getting hits. It makes zero sense, from a SD perspective, to train to shoot slower than the speed at which you can still see what you need to see and get hits. JMHO, of course.

actually that's a very good idea just shoot fast as they can get hits.

having the second beep (par?) does seem to add a bit of stress to students

Well we did it in a cold drizzle.

The Airsoft put them off until they did it. Then they wanted a wider selection of Air Soft , say a 1911 , Glock and Sig analogs. That and doing it in the relatively warm and dry garage. It was proposed we do some Air Soft ‘force on force’ but I think I’ll leave that to the high speed guys that are out there.

They liked the live fire warm up. Several had never shot one handed with the weak hand.

They thought the ‘inside the home’ drills were ok but a little ‘too much’ , too many rounds. The nice thing about 5 round strings is if somebody doesn’t have a good grip you really see it on the 4th and 5th shot.

More time on draw from holster was really the biggest want. There’s not a lot of places locally where you can draw and actually fire.

The Air Marshall qual was a lot of fun if nothing else. Some of them came pretty close on the times. It might not have been the most realistic but it was enjoyable and challenging.

If I had a 25 yard target – I actually do but the ground over there was a bit greasy, need to throw some road mix down – they seemed to think that would be good for 10 or 15 rounds.

Thanks for all the feedback folks

One last thought – one of the guys knew of a STR or maybe an SRT drill that was on the order of 50 rounds and had some 25 yard work. I tried to Google but got nothing. Anyone know what he might be talking about?
