Black. That's my son shooting it when he owned it, we did some trading. I also answered gray, but I meant the worn anodized gray of a well-worn M16A1 like the one I was issued.

Polished bright aluminum and XX+ exhibition grade walnut is missing from the list. I might even consider brass or bronze colored titanium nitride for that matter.

I've got 3 with OD green furniture, two with black.

I might do a wood furniture if I ever build another.

For rec use I usually don’t have a preference. In general however I do like to scheme my color or camo pattern to my environment. Brings me back to the day of krylon

Black rifles, hence the name, should be black. Think MSR (modern sporting rifle) and black should also come to mind.

This is for those that like AR’s.
I have the basic black AR’s, but I also have some with different colors.
When I decide to build one with a different color, I thought that OD Green it would be. But that changed to FDE. I still like the other colors and have built many in different colors over the last few years.
So, what’s your favorite color when it comes to AR’s
Post pics if you have them.

Black is timeless, but I quite like the black receiver & barrel and everything else FDE (i.e. your fourth AR from the left). It really is a pet peeve of mine where companies cannot get the same colour Ceracote/Duracoat on components (yes, I'm looking at you SCAR!)

View attachment 776442 I like em all, but I went Multi-Cam on my last one.
What rifle? All I see is a floating suppressor and bipod :)

Gunnyusmc you are a man after my own heart. Black just gets boring.

Having recently being bit by the AR bug I have at least two more builds planned as I already have the stripped lowers. The two AR's I currently have are all black but they are totally different with the barrel, handguard, stocks and sights I used. Most likely all of my future AR's will have some combination of colors.

My build currently in progress is the Purple People Eater inspired by gunny.

I have already started planning a light(er) weight build using 16" pencil barrel. Maybe understated look black with red accents (safety, mag release, bolt release, pins, etc.)

With the 20" barrel hunting rifle build I have been thinking about dirty white, gray, black camo pattern. I figured it will blend in as well as my bright orange hunting vest. :what: Does that count as on the wild side?

However my basic black budget build turned out to be so accurate that I am seriously considering doing another one with the same features. Since I already have the all black one I want to dress up the gun rack with either O.D. or FDE furniture. I favor O.D. but FDE is slowly growing on me. (FDE seems to have best sale prices). Of course this means buying another stripped lower. :uhoh:

Having the urge to play Gun Santa I am thinking about how cool it will be to have several AR's in different colors and letting the kids pick the one they like the best.

Plain old black is fine with me. My M4 in the military was camo. Sometimes brown, sometimes with some green mixed in, depending where it was going. I miss bow-flage.

So far I only have gray and OD with black metalwork but would like to do a full gray finish on the .300BO and one in FDE.

The optic has changed twice since this was taken.

I did full OD with Brownells Aluma-Hyde II on this 10/22.

Before I put a shorter, threaded barrel on it.

I thought there was a reason they called it the black rifle or black magic. Never heard it referred to as the pink rifle or the red rifle or the blue rifle, only the black rifle. John Feamster named his book about the ultra accurate AR 15 Black Magic, not any other color magic, it was black magic.

Personally I like the dark grey and black and like pretty much a single rather than multi color AR, less of course the use of a stainless steel barrel. The beauty of the AR 15 or for that matter AR 10 rifle is they are a lot like Burger King in that you can have it your way. Sort of a to each their own thing. My experience is people who enjoy their rifles choose a rifle much like they choose a car or truck, to suit their individual taste. All of my AR type rifles are not only the black or dark grey but they are relatively plain and simple.

Only one of my AR 15 rifles sports a scope and the black rifle on the right is an AR 10. The rifles reflect my personal taste. This also extends to my handguns as they also reflect my personal taste as does my truck in the driveway. Oh yeah, even my motorcycle is an extension of my personal taste. You really have to love America. :)

Not much of an AR guy--have a couple but they're not where I spend my time--so basic black for me.

I like colorful stuff, one of these days im either gonna build a heavy stainless barreled ar with as much aluminum parts as possible and have the whole thing anodized acid wash gray/black, or red/orange.

For now im working on an A4 in fde/brown/black.
Im waiting on the upper. Usps has it hanging out in Richmond Ca.....
