"Century L1A1 Sporter" on Imbel upper receiver. The Aussie soldiers Really wore out gas tubes (--during removal for cleaning--), which caused burrs on tube threads. This rifle's semi-auto function hardly worked, even then on the "Max. Gas (to piston), closed external vent." setting.
And because it's a Century
.....no barrel Washer was present = the rear sight offset could not be adequately adjusted. The pre-eminent FAL gun smith, Mark Graham of ARS, corrected the problems.
Only used 20 rounds today, went to the club After the gun Show, but I finally had a spotter for the 200-yard gong: a 10" x 12" plate, which looks as wide as the thin front post
.
But if you sit just 150 yards from that small gong (
when nobody else is around!) it then is so much easier to hit the metal plate.
Anybody who needs to be spoiled/pampered with the best ergos: ideal trigger, rail(s), adjustable butt stock etc would not like the older "NATO-era" battle rifles. The Commonwealth FALs, even with a "Metric Upper"-- have no BHO feature
(vs 100% 'Metric-pattern' FALs), but you seldom read any complaints about that.
Most people can't accept the 'lesser' ergos of an HK/PTR-91 !
...or the US-made CETME L by Marcolmar.
