Just wondering what you fellows shoot the best Rifle, Handgun or Shotgun? I am only an average shotgunner, don't shoot many shot shells a year, But I'm a pretty fair hand gun shooter, I probably shoot more handgun ammo and different handguns than any other type of shooting, but with a Rifle I'm just about unbelieveable. I've made some long range shots that are just amazing and if I say much more I'll be accused of being a "story" teller. But I am pretty damn good with a rifle, any rifle , open sights or scoped. Of course having a Marine Corp. back ground and quite a bit of long range shooting experiance helps a lot. I hunt deer witha handgun or an open sight 30-30 with cast bullets, just to make it a little more difficult. Tell me how you are please. Thanks.

Shoot best how? I suck with long guns out of the holster, can't hit skeet with a rifle or pistol, suck with buckshot or pistol at 100 yards. Each has its place in specific situations and each has situations for which it may not be well suited.

I think I know what he's getting at. Given the the limitations with the handgun, obviously even if I get 1 inch groups at 50 yards (I was getting better right when my muzzle brake went TU) I'm still not that good of a rifle shot; conversly I consider myself a good handgun shot, but I can't do that with a pistol....

Considering the pistol range is only 1/2 the distance as the rifle range, there are 2 matches per weekend and I can only shoot tactical rifle once every other month, I get a lot more triggertime in w/ Nina and Grace.

While I can certainly shoot smaller groups with a rifle, I usually seem to be able to hold my own just fine with a handgun and get shown up as often as not, within my shooting group, on rifles. I'm very happy to get an honest 1" group at 100 yards whereas one guy consistantly has 4 out of 5 shots touching at 100 yards. At 200 yards, I typically will get about a 3" group (a few 1.5" groups that I'm sorta proud of) but he can pretty consistantly can shoot 3 shots into 1" at 200 yards.

With handguns, more often than not, I don't have to make appologies for my shooting so I guess I consider myself a better handgun shooter than a rifle shooter but if push came to shove, I'd grab the 870 if I needed to defend myself. ;)

since i shoot highpower I'd have to say rifle.
however 'tactically' I'm probably a better pistolero

I shoot rifle well. I shoot a pistol passably. I can shoot slugs decently out of a shotgun but my skeet work is awful.

None. I'd be willing to say that I am better than 85% of the shooting public with any type gun. My strength is that I can understand and quickly apply the basic shooting/ ballistics fundamentals to whatever gun is in my hand. My weakness is I've only been seriously shooting for 4 years and there is never enough ammo. The real downside is that other 15% of the shooting public are all the ones that compete! In my first year of competition I have gone from top of the bottom third in matches to the bottom of the top third. I've gotten a lot smoother with a pistol, but still suck. I think I'm pretty good when it comes to run and gun rifle or shotgun though.

Maybe one day I'll buy some skool so I can say I am good with a gun.

I shoot the 2 rifles I have, pretty well. Both MOA, at least the last time I shot them. I shoot one handgun about as well, at the same distances, but it's a benchrested T/C Contender in .30-30. I shoot my pistols very well at defensive ranges, and of course, some better than others. Totally suck at shotgunning.

Actually I group best with a bow. (Hoyt ProVantage) At least I did until my CDP came along.

Gotta be a rifle.
For just recreational shooting, I would have to go with my CZ 452 22LR. My M-39 and 91/30 come close, but require more dicipline because after awhile, you notice the recoil.
For quick shooting, I would go with my Scout. I like to get close when I hunt, and the Scout is a good choice with its 2X scope. I can keep 3 shots inside of an inch at 100 yds with it, so the accuracy doesn't really suffer any.
I would say I am worst with my AK.
But I haven't shot it much either.
For pistols, I am pretty decent with my SIG and my CZ-75, but my 1911 still needs some sight work and a little smoothing out.

Lets see...handgun...couldnt hit the broad side of a barn from the inside.

Shotgun....all birds fly totaly worry free around me....

Rifle....if it hits anything FEET from where i was pointed....im happy...

Acutaly im halfway decent with small calaber rifles. My pistol I can hit what im pointed at all the time....groups...what groups. do keep them all on the paper now tho :D then again this is the frist time ive ever shot a pistol more than maybe a box of ammo. Until i bought my own i had shot a pistol maybe 50 times. used to plink with .22lr rifle a bit tho.

I got my pistol permit 10/01.I've shot at least once a week sence.I havn't shot a shotgun in years and I a rifle (not counting 22) for even more years.Nothing against long gunners,I just prefer handguns now.:)

Considering I've been shooting the same .22lr rifle my whole life, I'd say I can hold my own with it better than either of my handguns.

Most of the year, its the rifle. But during upland season my shotgunning improves noticeably as the number of of clays/birds I shoot at increases.

After hunting season, my pistol shooting improves.

Then I get good with a rifle again for varmits in the spring..

Shotgun: If I can see it--it's dead.
Handgun: Working hard to be like #1
Rifle : Need to dust away cobwebs, at one time I shot competition rimfire and '06 a bunch--iron sighted . Never learned to use a scope , per se. But I'd win.

Guess I took Churchill's " give me a 12 ga and 1911" bit to heart.

Definitely handguns ...

I have a 'cross dominance' so I shoot pistols using my dominant left eye and I use my weaker right when shooting long guns.

Stupid question #94562

I saw a movie where a practice rifle shooter, sighting through open sights, was told to 'keep both eyes open'. What's up with that?

Better with a rifle, need more practice with a shotgun and a lot more practice with handguns.

Compared to the average Joe with a gun, I do my best with

1. A handgun

2. A rifle

3. Average guy whips me pretty good with a shotgun.
