If you wanted to be prepared to arm a small group of people like you family or friends for instance in the case of shtf, chaos, invasion, etc what guns would you own?

well that depends on what kind of $$$ you were trying to spend. I would say a cheap and effective method would be a bunch of SKS's. You could go even cheaper and get Mosin's but those are bolt-action with high recoil. Maybe a little of both?

first and foremost...AR, or at least something that accepts STANAG magazines.

Second on the list might be bolt action 308s or 12 ga shotguns.

I've been thinking about this too. I've come to the conclusion that arming myself is not good enough. By yourself, you are practically defenseless. You must have armed allies. And in this day and age, you can't depend on all the good people around you being able to arm themselves. There is too much anti-gun sentiment and too many good people that are squeamish about assault rifles. Also, there might be a gun confiscation program some time in the future that will take guns from the good people around you.

Therefore, I think it prudent to have plenty of extras to pass around just in case. Or at least that's how I justify buying more than I myself need. :)

I know ARs have maintenance issues. But I choose ARs anyway because in the event of a total and complete breakdown of society, there will be people with the know how to convert an AR into an M16. I'm not so sure about the other types of assault rifles. The odds of finding that person for ARs I think is a little better than the others.

We've had plenty of discussions on this in many other threads. The consensus is that untrained people should be given the simplest weapon requiring the least skill. Others are of the opinion that untrained people are more of a threat to you and your group if given a weapon and that they should be relegated to loading and support activities.

all the guns i own right now are perfect for my family and friends and plus i have a collection for the around the world going around.

kel-tec 2000 9mm, great for the girlfriend low recoil carbine, made in good old FL.

Bersa thunder 9, Argentina but imported from NJ

slr-106f bulgaria but imported from las Vegas, NV

Savage mk 2 .22 LR bolt action imported from Canadian

Loomis I definitely agree.

Good Stuff so far.

I do think AKs and SKS would be good since they use the same ammo thats why I have one of each

Whatever you've got. But if your stocking up, I would use common caliber and stash some ammo away. I'll agree with SKS, AK, AR, Etc. But dont discound a good shotgun or a powerful scoped bolt action. Distance is your friend, and if they get to close few things are better than a 12 ga.

Added: Depending on the situation, I really hope I am not the lone supplier of firearms, food, supplies, etc. in any given situation. I think it would be a bad position to be in with a group of people, un-trained and likewise un-motivated to provide for their own safety. Not saying I would turn them away, I'll just hope that if the SHTF that there are some like minded or at least some others bringing some benifit to the situation.

This is perfect I have a Mossberg 500, a 10/22, an SKS, an AK, a Mauser. I do need a good scoped rifle though

It all depends on where you live. Here in the vast openness of Kansas, long range rifles are more suitable for the environment. I can keep the guys with ar15's at bay with our scoped .30 calibre rifles while protecting close up with AK's and SKS's. In a urban environment, the AR's and AK's will do better than the scoped rifles.

CZ 9mm Handguns.
AK47-based
Dragunov
Mossberg

As a lowcost - line
i´d accompany it by:

Keltec 9mm carbines
SKS
Mosins
singleshot 12ga

i guess a combo of 10/22´s
and Mosins would be great
and cost effective also.

Probably just hook them up with the other 3 guns I own.

If I were to buy them, probably SKS or Mosins. Depending on their shooting ability.

If I had unlimited money, ARs and AKs.

I would think you would want guns that your family are familiar with. I am new to this, but as of now my 12 and 9 year old daughters know how to shoot the SA .22 with no issues, we will work on the semi 9mm next. They already are dead on shots with small caliber rifles. I would think that a .22 rifle in the hands of a 12 year old who can shoot it is better then an AR in the hands of someone who cannot.'

Just my untrained, un educated and un-inspired opinion.

Personally I would go with several ARs to pass around, and 1 each of a variety of weapons to cover the gaps in range.

For example, I have 2 match-grade long-range bolt action high powered rifles for accurate long range shooting, an AR-15 for higher rate of rife short to medium range scenarios, and a 12 gauge for short-range. Those are all set up for me.

My plan in the near future is to build an AR-10, another standard AR-15, and an AR-15 chambered in .458 SOCOM. Those 3 rifles will be for family and friends, and I've identified who I'm building each one for, so they will have the opportunity to take them to the range, sight them in, and get accustomed to them.

I specifically chose the AR platform because they are easy to use, accurate, reliable, and everyone I expect to be around if the S hits the F is already familiar with them. YMMV.

for the average person a variety of simple firearms on hand including semi-auto .22LR (Marlin or Ruger or the like), 12 or 20 ga break-open shottys, pistol caliber carbines, revolvers and for grown men/large lads 16+ maybe lever or bolt centerfires and pump shottys.

I already have everything I need;

AR's and SKS
Couple of Mossberg 500's and a Remington 1300 shotgun
Scoped Ruger M77 22-250
Several .22lr in long rifles and handguns
Several more calibers in handguns- .357, .45, 10mm, etc.

But what I'd really like is a Remington 700 in .338 Lapua with a Leupold Mark IV 8.5-25x50mm scope. (I don't think Santa will be bringing me that this year:()

That and an unlimited supply of brass, primers, powder, etc.
