I'm talking D/A here and only guns that you own, have owned or have shot. None of this "I'd like a Korth" type stuff. My favorite D/A would be an N-Frame S&W.
I like the N frame Smith, and mine is a .41 Magnum Model 57. I took second place with it last year in the annual Elmer Keith Memorial Long Range handgun shoot outside of Spokane. Great gun, great caliber.
However, I also own a Colt Python. Ahhhhh, the Python. That glass smooth action. That full underlug 6-inch vent rib barrel. Those comfortable grips. That polished mirror deep blue finish.
My smith pre-model 27 3.5 inch .357 mag. It is as smooth as butter. I love that gun. Bought it for $250 2years ago. I mite have to sell it. They have gone up to much in price not to.
I was going to say something else. But after serious thought it seems like when I want to just enjoy a day at the range, one of them and an ammo can of "home-rolled" loads go with me.
My now over-20-year-old blue steel, snubby S&W Model 10 .38 spl. When I think of a snub-nosed revolver, this is what I think they should look like. When I bought it, I sold a 6" S&W 686, which of course I should have kept. Nice actions on both, but the M-10 is just better looking to me.
My Colt Python is by far the finest revolver I have ever owned. But I think the 4" Trooper .357 is my favorite revolver. It balances great in the hand. It's as accurate as the Python (in my hands, anyway). And it's got a nice classic look. Nothing fancy, all business.
S&W 629-6 with half-lug 4" barrel. Looks good, shoots good, tight lockup, smooth & crisp action out of the box. What a Smith is supposed to be. Sturdy but not unpleasantly heavy.
Plus it shoots my favorite cartridges, the two great .44s.
There are few realistic handgun tasks (except perhaps CCW) that she won't handle.
